Every Rider Counts
January at the USEA office is often a time for reflection as we look back on the year before and see what we can do to improve the year ahead. If a count was done of the most often used words in this cozy building in Leesburg, “report” would definitely be near the top. A day doesn’t go by where someone isn’t cajoling the IT department to run a report on something -our data is analyzed backwards, forwards, inside-out, and upside-down.
Want to know some interesting figures on a report that was just run at the office? The report was titled “2010 Max Rank Riders Per Level Competed” and it looked at the highest level a horse and rider competed in 2010 along with what other levels they also entered in the same year.
In 2010, there were 221 different riders that competed at the Advanced level on 271 different horses. Those 221 riders competed a total of 5,159 times and of those starts only 831 were at the Advanced level while a whopping 1,099 were at Training and 197 were even at Beginner Novice. Advanced level riders competed the most times at the Preliminary level (1,260 times).
Each of those 221 Advanced riders brought in $443.53 in starter fees - almost eight times as much- as the $54.76 which was brought in by each of the 1,426 Beginner Novice Competitors. Although overall the Training Level horses contributed the most with $215,688 in starter fees. This hard data shows that every rider at every level is integral at the USEA. The lower levels may have the most starts, but Advanced riders are a large part of those starters.
Other interesting facts from this report:
- Six starts at the Beginner Novice level were made by horses that also competed at the Advanced level in 2010.
- The level with the most unique riders is Novice with 2,468 but Training riders (1,970) brought in the most starter fees with $184,300.
- There were 40,418 starts that were made in 2010 by 7,493 riders on 9,051 horses.
- Novice level had the most starts with 12,245 followed by Training with 10,828 and Beginner Novice with 8,016.
