Eventers at Plain as Bay Farm Face Loss of Horses, Equipment after Devastating Tornado in Oklahoma
The catastrophic tornado that ripped through the Oklahoma suburb of Moore for about 40 minutes on Monday claimed thousands of homes, 24 human lives, and an undetermined number of animal lives – including horses.
Plain as Bay Farm, an eventing facility maintained by Randy Weidner and Lindsay White, was reduced to rubble and claimed the lives of their horses, many of which were ex-racehorses.
The eventers posted on their Facebook page, shortly after returning to their farm to find that their barn had been leveled and no horses survived:
“I want to that you all for your prayers and offers to help. At this point I am still in shock and just can't believe it happened. Randy and I were very lucky we got out in time we literally had left the farm and no more the ten min later the tornado hit the barn. We are now just trying to cope the best we can, we lost everything but the clothing on our back and whatever may be in the car we drove out in. I am heartbroken....all the horses we lost where my "children" each unique and very special. Thank you all again.”
The USEA would like to extend our condolences to all that were involved in this tragic incident. The eventing community is a tight-knit one, and there have been tons of inquiries made by people wanting to help, or donate their supplies or money.
