Leesburg, Va. – The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is excited to announce that Dragonfire Farm (Wilton, Ca.) will be holding a two-day jump chute clinic on May 21-22, 2016. This is a wonderful educational opportunity for all those involved in the Future Event Horse (FEH) program on the west coast.

The USEA previously announced that three-year olds at the 2016 FEH East and West Coast Championships will be asked to free-jump through a jump chute in addition to the standard in-hand class.

Thanks to FEH presenting sponsor Priefert for providing a jump chute structure for the west coast, the USEA is now able to provide educational opportunities for those out west wishing to practice free jumping before the Championships in September.

While the clinic is open to horses of all ages, it is intended to be an introduction for young horses to practice free jumping in a jump chute in order to prepare for the FEH Championships. Handlers will be assisted in teaching their horses how to safely and effectively free jump through a jump chute, and the height of the jumps will depend on age and experience, although the set up and structure will be taught based off the Championship dimensions.

The clinic will be led by upper level Event and Grand Prix show jump rider, ICP faculty member and FEH/YEH Committee Advisor Robin Walker, four-star Event rider and FEH Committee member Jennifer McFall and special guest Willy Arts, who is a young horse and stallion expert from Holland.

The cost for the jump chute clinic will be $60 per horse, per 30-minute session (horses may participate in one session per day, Saturday-Sunday). Anyone may audit for $10 per day. Stabling available upon request.

New in 2016, the FEH Championships will feature a free jumping competition in addition to the standard in-hand class. Jump Chute opportunities before these championships will be announced, and currently Dragonfire Farm is hosting a free jumping clinic on the west coast this month, May 21-22. Loch Moy Farm will host free jumping clinics on July 7 and October 5.

About the USEA Future Event Horse Series presented by Priefert

The USEA Future Event Horse Series (FEH) was introduced in 2007 as a precursor to the already popular USEA Young Event Horse Series. The FEH program evaluates the potential of yearlings, two-year-olds, and three-year-olds to become successful upper level event horses. Each age group is judged separately, and genders within the age group are judged separately when the number of entries allows.
