Cross Country Report from Luhmuhlen and Nina Gardner

Well, we have had better days! Jennie and Ping had an uncharacteristic elimination after three run outs. Ping seemed to me to be jumping very big which made it hard to maneuver him over tight corners and through very narrow 2nd and 3rd combination fences. Tiana also had trouble with Ringwood Magister and retired late on course after a 3rd combination fence run out. Both horses appear to be fine, so, as they say, we will be looking for a better next start.
The best news for the US contingent from Luhmuhlen was Will Faudree’s clear-clear round on Andromaque in the three-star. Will also completed the four- Star on Pawlow, but with some time and a single jumping penalty. Julian Stiller had similar penalties on her horse, Chapel Amble, in the four-star.
As usual, the Brits, Germans, Aussies and Kiwis are coming out on top thus far. The USA is out of the running, and the Cambalda team (Jennie, Kelley, Lillian, Shannon, Tim and I) will be spectators for the Jog Up and Show Jumping on the final day of Luhmuhlen. It is a very impressive event and we’ve seen lots of old friends from home and from international Eventing. We’re disappointed, naturally, but we have immense confidence in Jennie and high hopes for Ping in their next big competition.
