Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials Ready For A Wonderful Weekend
The Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials, presented by SmartPak, is the next event on the prestigious Adequan USEA Gold Cup calendar and the USEA will be on-site to bring you all the action with daily press releases, interviews, and photo galleries.
Twenty-three horses and riders are set to compete in the CIC2* which will serve as the Gold Cup division at this weekend’s event. Top horses and riders in this division receive $500 in cash from the USEA as well as a slew of prizes from the Gold Cup sponsors in addition to the $5,000 purse offered in the CIC2* division at the Stuart Horse Trials. The competition will surely be stiff with big names such as Jennifer Brannigan, Will Coleman, Phillip Dutton, Leslie Law, and Doug Payne competing for the top spots.
Leslie Law was the overall winner of the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series in 2009 and was presented with a hefty check for $10,000 at the USEA Annual Meeting. Competing in his first Gold Cup event of 2010, and with two horses entered in the two-star, Law will surely bring his A-game as he knows what is on the line!
The CIC2* dressage begins Friday morning followed by cross-country Saturday afternoon and show jumping rounding out the weekend on Sunday. Check out USEventing.com each night for the latest news.
In addition to the CIC2*, Stuart is offering a CIC1* division as well as Novice through Intermediate horse trial divisions.
What is the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series?
Now in its seventh year, the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series is an exciting format of competition and entertainment for U.S. Eventing, encompassing eight of the top eventing competitions from around the U.S. where the best of the best vie for prize money, trophies, and the title of Gold Cup Champion.
Horses and riders must achieve points together as a pair at the Gold Cup events, and both must be members of the USEA. First place winners take home 200 points for their win, and can also earn bonus points: 50 extra points for double-clear cross-country rounds, and 40 extra points for double-clear show jumping rounds. Winners of the CIC2*, the designated "Gold Cup division," will take home $5,500 in prize money, 7-dose box of Adequan, a three-month supply of SUCCEED, a Mountain Horse jacket, and a pair of Nunn Finer American Style open front boots. Second place finishers take home a Nutrena feed gift certificate and a pair of Nunn Finer American Style open front boots, and third place receives a pair of the Nunn Finer boots as well.
