Area II Eventer Loses Horses In Barn Fire

Early Sunday morning, January 15, a fire at Pleasant Ridge Farm in Monroe County, Pa., leveled the barn and claimed the lives of nine horses. Two of those horses belonged to Rebecca Greene, an up and coming upper level Area II eventer. Over the past several years, Becky has developed a burgeoning training and sales business and established herself as an instructor for Beginner and Intermediate riders in northeastern Pennsylvania. Becky has a love for OTTBs and has trained and sold several horses off the track.
Becky lost both of her horses—Scooby Who, her Preliminary mount, and Cassidy Blue, her current sales project. She purchased Scooby at Suffolk Downs in the fall of 2007 and developed him into a talented eventer; together, Scooby and Becky competed throughout Area II frequently taking home top ribbons. Scooby had a huge personality, and he was a cross country machine. Becky and Scooby had a great 2011 season, moving from training to preliminary, and had their sights set on a one-star this year.
Becky purchased Cassidy Blue (Kaz), also an OTTB, as a four-year-old in the late spring of 2011. Though Becky had originally planned to sell Kaz this winter, she decided to keep him through the 2012 competition season as he had shown a natural talent for jumping and was a joy to work with on the flat. Becky was preparing to take Kaz to his first recognized event at Morven Park. In addition to the devastation of losing her two horses, Becky lost all of her tack and equipment in the fire. In the wake of such a great loss, Becky’s friends have put together a fundraiser.
