Announcing the New Seema Sonnad Junior Riders' Grant

The USEA is honored to announce the new Seema Sonnad Junior Riders’ Grant that has been generously established in her memory by her husband, Henry Glick and her friends. Seema was not only passionate about the sport she loved, but also about ensuring its future health through the education and guidance of younger generations of riders.
Following consultation with Dr. Glick and other key donors, it has been decided that the grant will be focused on Young Riders who have completed a CCI1* competition in 2015. The $5,000 grant will provide funds to assist with the education, training and competition expenses of Junior Riders aged 18 and under. An independent selection panel is already reviewing candidates and it is hoped that the successful recipient will be named in December at the USEA Annual Meeting and Convention.
Seema, who died on May 27 this year, was not only a rider herself but a supporter of other riders through her involvement in horse owning syndicates. A woman dedicated to serving the sport by her mentorship of young people, Seema also was exemplary as a volunteer, spending countless hours serving wherever she was needed. Her boundless energy and “can do” attitude pervaded her entire life and serve as a model for us all to follow.
It is important that Seema’s immense contribution to U.S. Eventing be recognized and remembered. The USEA Foundation is proud to participate in accomplishing that goal by being chosen to administer the Seema Sonnad Junior Rider’s Grant and we thank her husband Henry and all her friends for making this possible.
