An Early Morning Gallop

As the sun came up over the mountains, members of the USEF Eventing High Performance Team gathered at the bucolic High Acre Farm in The Plains, Virginia to gallop. For the past two days the Team members have been attending training sessions conducted by U.S. Chef d’Equipe Mark Phillips. This morning’s gallop and tomorrow’s veterinary exam are being held in anticipation of the riders’ departure for the Burghley CCI4* in order to ensure each horse’s current fitness and soundness.

Becky Holder and Courageous Comet were the first to go in the wee hours of the morning.
The sun was just starting to rise as the pair did their final breeze.
Ballynoecastle RM perks his ears in anticipation of the home stretch.
It was too early for Reggie to be awake, but with a little encouragement from Buck he showed off his powerful stride.
The trio of geldings from Surefire stayed in perfect form during their gallops.
Jan Byyny led the way on Waterfront while her working students followed on Syd Kent and Inmidair.
The matching navy ear bonnets gave the threesome an elegant air.
Inmidair didn’t mind when his friends Syd Kent and Waterfront forged ahead.
Buck’s second mount of the morning was his Rolex star, My Boy Bobby.
Bobby was in fine form despite the early hours.
Allison Springer and Arthur gallantly galloped up the track.
While Allison’s other mount Destination Known came up behind with a working student.
Phillip Dutton stops for a chat with Mark Phillips while TruLuck enjoys the view.
After the chat TruLuck showed off his huge stride with Dutton sitting comfortably in the irons.
Critical Decision eagerly took his turn in the gallop.
Missy Ransehousen is lucky to have such a majestic partner.
Mandiba mugs for the camera while galloping up the hill with rider Karen O’Connor.
Will Faudree and Corrine Ashton bring up the rear as the last riders to gallop.
Pawlow seemed to enjoy his morning outing
