If you’re a new team setting out to compete in the 2024 USEA Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Eventing Championships in just a couple of weeks, preparing for the “happiest horse trial” in the U.S. may seem a bit daunting. With five components to the Spirit Award contest that require creativity and cohesion between team members, there is a lot that goes into preparing and packing to leave for the event.

The 2024 USEA Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Eventing Championships are fast approaching, and time is running out for program members to secure their spot at this epic event. For the first time, the Intercollegiate and inaugural IEL Championships will be hosted on the same weekend at the Stable View Local Charities H.T. in Aiken, South Carolina, on May 4-5, and the organizers are pulling out every stop to make this an unforgettable experience for all involved! The event has a maximum capacity of 400 entries, so don’t wait to add your name to the list of confirmed competitors.

On March 18, 2019, I got to the barn before sunrise like I did every morning, and this time I was looking forward to celebrating What A Trippi's 16th birthday with some special treats and a ride. The second I opened his stall door to throw him some hay, I knew something was wrong. He was standing just off enough to raise an alarm.

The coveted Spirit Award, which originated from the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championship and quickly became as important as the competition itself, will be returning this year with double the excitement at the 2024 USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing Championships! With the two program championships merging for the first time, the organizing team at Stable View is committed to making the weekend an unforgettable experience for these middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. Separate Spirit Contests will be offered for each program , and Stable View has generously donated perpetual trophies for the two contest champions. While not an eventer himself, Jim Moyer has been involved in the eventing community for five decades through his late wife, instructor Jean Moyer. When Jean died in 2020, Jim continued volunteering in the sport to stay busy in retirement and stay connected to the community he loves.

Since 2014, the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Program has provided a framework on which eventing teams and individual competitors can continue to pursue their aspirations within the sport while attending colleges and universities across the country. While Intercollegiate Team Challenges have quickly risen in popularity on the East Coast of the U.S., adoption on the West Coast is just picking up with two exciting new team challenges that have been added to the 2024 calendar at iconic California venues, Galway Downs and Twin Rivers Ranch.
