2014 Membership Reminders and USEA Policy Updates
As the eventing season takes off for 2014, we want to make sure that all of our competitors are on track and well-aware of the membership policies for this year. Here are some of the policies – new and old – to be aware of. We wish everyone a safe and successful year!
- Make sure your membership is current before you start competing. Visit the USEA's Online Services and renew, fax your application to the USEA at (703) 779-0550 or call us at 703-779 0440.
- Make sure your horse is registered at the correct level for his/her next competition. Visit the Online Servicesand log into your account - click on Horse Registration and sign your horse up. Doing it by mail or fax (703) 779-0550 download the Horse Life Application form and either fax or mail the application to us. We're happy to take your registration via the phone. However, a $10 phone-in fee will apply.
New for 2014
- Beginner Novice Riders:All Beginner Novice Riders must have a USEA ID number. ID numbers do not require membership and can be created by going to the USEA home page and clicking on Online Services. Click “New User?” to create profile.
- Beginner Novice Horses: All horses competing at the Beginner Novice level must be registered with at least a restricted status. There is no cost to register a horse with restricted status, but the owner or rider must have a USEA ID number to register the horse.
- Beginner Novice Competitors: Do you want your competition results to count for the year-end leaderboard and be saved on your record? Do you want to qualify for the AEC? If so, then register with the USEA before your next competition. In 2014, the USEA will extend a 14-day grace period for Beginner Novice level riders to join the USEA, renew their memberships or to register their horse. Note: This applies to the Beginner Novice level only.
- Novice and above Horses and Riders: USEA mandates that all riders and horse competing in USEA recognized competitions at the Novice Level and above must have a valid competing USEA horse registration and USEA Membership. ALL Foreign competitors including Canada and Mexico must have a valid USEA membership and horse registration to compete.
Reminders
Transfer of Ownership: Become effective at the date the forms (with required signature(s)) and Bill of Sale and fees are received at the USEA office. Application and Bill of Sale can either be fax (703) 779-0550, mail or email to [email protected]or [email protected]. Note: Transfer of ownership is not complete without Bill of Sale.
Naming of horses for competition: Competitors please enter your horse in USEA recognized events under the names which the horse is registered with the USEA. Competing under a different name other than the name the horse is registered makes it difficult to identify the horse in order to keep records up-to-date and accurate. If you would like to change your horse registered name, by logging into the Online Servicesor by downloading the horse registration form and either fax, email or mail to the USEA Membership Department.
Points and placings are not retroactive. Competitors who enter events at the Novice level and above without benefit of membership will be denied entry to all USEA recognized competitions.
Amateur Status: All Full members (age 19 or older in 2014) must declare whether they are an amateur or a professional. There is a seven-day grace period upon receipt of the application to make any changes to this status. If you are a professional and have declared as an amateur, please notify the USEA office immediately. For the definition of the Amateur status, please refer to the USEF Rules for Eventing, Appendix 3.4.4 Amateur (A). Do you have a Medical armband? If not, order one when you renew your membership, or visit the USEA web store at www.ShopUSEA.com or call the USEA office and place your order.
