The 5th Annual Nunn Finer Than Carolina Eventing Series sponsored by Nunn Finer products and Bit of Britain begins its 2011 run in Area 3 at Paradise Farm on February 18-20, and concludes in Area 2 at The Ark on May 7. The two mid-series events are Southern Pines 1 on March 12-13 and FENCE on April 2-3.
Horse/Rider combinations earn points by placing 1st-5th at the four North and South Carolina Events at Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Preliminary. The lowest scoring Junior/Young Rider and Adult at each level (P, T, N, BN) will win special prizes donated by Nunn Finer. Riders competing in hybrid divisions (i.e. PT or TN) are also eligible for series awards for the level at which they rode cross country (i.e. PT riders earn points in the Training division). All riders are automatically entered at each of the participating events in all divisions (open, rider, horse, junior rider, etc.), but they must place at a minimum of two of the four events to win series awards. If a series division ends in a tie, it will be broken by averaging the riders’ placing final scores, with the lowest average winning. Thank you to Nunn Finer products and Bit of Britain for their continued support!
The Twin Rivers Spring International showed that there isn’t just one right answer when preparing your horse. The CCI4*-S served as a qualifier in the US Equestrian Open of Eventing, but before the $200,000 finals at Morven in Virginia, on Oct. 9-12, seven of the 11 horses were competing in their final prep before the approximately 2,300-mile haul to Lexington for the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event in two weeks.
Based on the steady and successful trajectory of Texas-based junior rider Mia Holstien through the lower levels of eventing, you might never guess she almost gave it up completely.
