Wayne DuPage Gears Up for the 2011 Eventing Season

By Wayne DuPage Horse Trials - Press Release | May 23, 2011

Wayne DuPage Horse Trials, Wayne, IL will be held on SUNDAY, July 10. The horse trials will again host a one day format show. The one day format, offered multiple times a year in various USEA Areas, recently prompted the 2007 and 2008 USEA Third Ranked Overall Rider and the 2008 USEA Lady Rider of the Year, Sally Cousins, (Aiken, SC) to write an article for the Eventing Nation website. In the article, Sally talks about how much she likes the one day format. Amazingly, in this article Sally was referring to riding not one but four horses at a recent one day HT and all at the Intermediate level with all four horses finishing the competition by noon! Sally remarks that, “I love the new one-day format where we do all three phases close together. She goes on to say, “I find the one-day type of format easier on the horses.” and she appreciates that at a one day HT, “….. we only warm up twice for all three phases.” Conversely, she thinks at multiple day horse trials, the stabling or repeated shipping is much harder on the horses. If Sally can make a case for riding four horses in one day at the Intermediate level being beneficial for the horses and doable for the rider, one might reason that riding a horse or two at Beginner Novice through Preliminary level ought to be a piece of cake!

The Wayne DuPage Horse Trials July 10 show will follow a similar schedule to last year’s and the same order for the three phases, Dressage, Show Jumping and then Cross Country. Riders are invited to wear casual attire for the Dressage phase, to wear their XC attire in the Show Jumping phase and then head to the Cross Country phase. (USEF rules regarding One Day Attire: EV114 Dress.8. At Eventing Tests or when all three phases of a Horse Trials are contested over one day Protective headgear and protective vests as above. Clothing as appropriate for the test in progress (see below), or at the competitor’s option - boots, britches, spurs and gloves – as applicable for the test being performed. Long or short sleeved shirt with collar and without neckwear, of a conservative color, neatly tucked into riding breeches.). See USEF EV114 for complete details on one day attire.

The horse trials is delighted to welcome back Feather Creek Equestrian Center, (Elgin, IL) which as it did last year, will sponsored the Competitor’s Buffet on Saturday, July 9. Jump 4 Joy will be on hand this year as well to showcase their terrific show jumps.

On ground stabling is available, but not mandatory, and features an electric outlet at every stall. Overnight security is included in the stabling cost as well. For those choosing to forgo stabling, there is no grounds fee or haul in fee!
The Wayne DuPage Horse Trials, Inc. season is well underway with preparations for the Lucinda Green Clinic June 12-13 and new this year, a XC schooling day Sunday, June 19 in the Pratt’s Wayne Woods Forest Preserve, site of the Wayne DuPage Horse Trials. See the Wayne DuPage website, www.waynedupageht.com for details on both. E-mail: [email protected]

Come enjoy the one day format!
