August 15, 2010-Woodside, CA--The curse of Friday the 13th seemed to follow some riders throughout the weekend at the Summer Event at Woodside, especially in the Advanced division where only a third of the field completed all three phases.

Never the less, as is true at every event, someone is bound to have a good weekend and in the case of John Michael Durr and his bay Stallion, Warrick, they not only completed their first Advanced together, but won.

“I am so lucky to have this horse who loves his job so much,” said John Michael, crediting his coaches Lilo Fore and Dana Lynd Pugh with doing an amazing job to help him and his partner accomplish what has been a goal of his for quite some time.

The pair began the weekend sitting in 5th position, but after putting in a clean cross-country, adding only a hand full of time penalties, they found themselves sitting in first place following day two of competition. Durr had high praise for Derek Di Grazia’s fantastic course, remarking, “Derek did such a great job as a designer and I feel like Warrick finished a better horse then he started.”

Alexandra Slusher found significant success on Di Grazia’s courses as well throughout the weekend, winning both the Intermediate and Open Preliminary divisions. Her Intermediate mount Juicy Couture, known as Ellie, won what was only her second Intermediate and received high praise from Slusher who remarked, “She really came into her own and put her best efforts forward in every possible way this weekend. I had so much fun riding her.”

The mare, owned by Matt Slusher, put in a flawless show jumping round to secure her win in the Intermediate division.

Slusher and her other mount, Last Call, owned by Christie Campbell, had some fun of their own, using the Open Preliminary division as a first show back to get themselves going again, following success in the CCI3* division at Bromont in Quebec Canada, just a few months ago. The pair were spot on all weekend with a great test Friday, followed by double-clean trips both across the country and in the stadium.

Slusher hopes to continue her season next competing in the Advanced division at the Twin Rivers International Horse Trials in September, which will serve as the final Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series division this year. She'll wrap up her season at Galway Downs in November with the first ever CCI3* in area VI.

Yo La Tengo 2002 - 2010
It is with deepest regret that we announce that "Yo La Tengo," horse #74 ridden by Sarah Berry, collapsed while competing in the Preliminary Rider division at The Event at Woodside, in Woodside, California, on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Berry is from Van Nuys, California.

Yo La Tengo collapsed following fence #10A. The fall was unrelated to the jumping effort. There was a full paramedic and veterinary team present within moments after the collapse. Yo La Tengo was taken to UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Hospital, Davis, California, for necropsy.

The organizers and officials of The Event at Woodside and The Horse Park at Woodside would like to extend their deepest sympathy to Sarah Berry.
