USEA Continues Partnership with Charles Owen
The United States Eventing Association is proud to welcome back the Charles Owen as a long-time sponsor of the Instructors’ Certification Program. In addition to supporting this important educational program, Charles Owen helmets are the “Official Riding Helmet of the USEA,” and the company also proudly sponsors the Bit of Britain/USEA American Eventing Championships and the USEA Annual Meeting and Convention.

Charles Owen has been the forefront in providing riders with state-of-the-art safety equipment. Their design engineers have been involved with helmet standards since 1953, and are constantly striving for improvement through decades of intense research.
Charles Owen Technical Merit Award
Continuing on their “educational streak,” this year Charles Owen will be sponsoring an exciting new award designed to reward exceptional riding skills on the cross-country course. At events, riders can sign up to be considered for this technical merit award, which was founded by the USEA Professional Horseman’s Council. Riders will be judged on a loop of the cross-country course on their galloping position, preparation period approaching a jump, balance, and other important factors. Riders may volunteer to be judged for this special award and the outcome will not affect their official score at the event in any way.
The hope is that this award will provide incentives for riders who demonstrate exemplary cross-country technique, and will also educate riders and trainers as to what constitutes safe riding across country. The riders will receive scoresheets with written comments, which will provide valuable feedback for them and their trainers.
Level IV ICP instructors, USEA licensed officials, and USET Senior Team riders will be qualified to judge these riders at the events. Be sure to sign up to compete for a Charles Owen Technical Merit Award at upcoming events this year!
