The U.S. Equestrian Federation has announced a change to the U.S. Olympic Eventing Team prior to the start of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Traveling reserve combination Liz Halliday and Nutcracker will move into the three-member team, replacing Will Coleman and Diabolo.
With Paris Olympic team selection this summer as a big goal, Liz Halliday headed out onto Ian Stark’s CCI4*-S cross-country course today at the Setters’ Run Farm Carolina International hoping to make the time with Miks Master C and show off a smooth round. After leading the division from day 1’s dressage on a 22.5, Halliday was able to accomplish both things and win aboard Ocala Horse Properties’ and Deborah Palmer’s 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding (Mighty Magic x Qui Luma CBF).
The standings after today’s CCI4*-S show jumping at the Setters’ Run Farm Carolina International shuffled with 14 double-clear rounds out of 35 to start, but Liz Halliday stayed right where she was at the top of the leaderboard aboard Miks Master C.
Liz Halliday’s found the perfect formula to set up her top horses for their spring three-days, and it always includes the Setters’ Run Farm Carolina International. She’s found herself in a strong position for the win after day 1’s dressage, taking the top three spots aboard Miks Master C (22.5), Cooley Moonshine (25.5), and Cooley Quicksilver (27.1). She also slotted into fifth with Cooley Nutcracker (28.5).
Liz Halliday admits she’s not one to spend too much time in the past, but after a very “transitional” 2023, she’s taken the time to reflect on the changes in her life and the amazing horse power she has in her barn. Halliday topped the USEA leaderboard’s 2023 Bates USEA Lady Rider of the Year standings with results on 13 different horses from Novice to the CCI5*-L level.
While Liz Halliday had five rails in hand heading into this afternoon’s CCI4*-L show jumping at Galway Downs, she tried to stay focused on giving Cooley Nutcracker the best ride she could in the buzzy atmosphere of the main arena.
Liz Halliday didn’t exactly have the morning she was planning on before she hopped on Cooley Nutcracker for cross-country in the CCI4*-L at Galway Downs. Her first ride, Shanroe Cooley, had an awkward jump over fence 19a, a duck at the Land Rover Mission Vieho Water, and she wasn’t able to stay on.
Just four days ago, Liz Halliday was standing on the podium in Santiago, Chile, with a team silver medal around her neck. Now, she’s brought two of her promising Advanced horses to The Eventing Championships at Galway Downs for the U.S. Equestrian Federation CCI4*-L Eventing National Championship, and she’s off to a good start, leading the division on Cooley Nutcracker.
