Competing in a long-format three-day event is the ultimate test of preparation, conditioning, stamina, and determination for horse and rider. Recovering your horse from the rigors of a Classic Series Three-Day Event, both during and after the event, is a critical component to your overall success. Recovery is a simple yet complex process that requires a lot of planning and effort from the horse owner, and it doesn’t just begin and end in the vet box on endurance day.
Three new USEA Classic Series champions were crowned during the Summer Coconino HT and Western Underground, Inc. Training, Novice, and Beginner Novice 3-Day Event, held July 7-8 in Flagstaff, Arizona, and in a repeat of 2022, trainer Brittney Caflisch and her student Jaeli Uselding took home two of those wins.

The United States Eventing Association’s Area X of Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico will kick off its 2023 calendar of USEA-recognized horse trials in March with the vision of growing the SAzEA Horse Trials and returning the Coconino Horse Trials to their profile as a destination event following the effects of COVID-19 and then wildfires in the area.
The Summer Coconino Horse Trials took place in Flagstaff, Arizona on July 8-10, 2022, and featured two USEA Classic Series divisions held at the Beginner Novice and Novice levels. It was the trainer/student duo of Brittany Caflisch and Jaeli Uselding of Amarillo, Texas who brought home the win in their respective divisions, making their USEA Classic Series experience even more special.

Area X’s leg of the Charles Owen Technical Merit Award took place at the Coconino Summer I Horse Trials in Flagstaff, Arizona on July 5-7, 2019. Over the course of the year, the Charles Owen Technical Merit Award is presented at one event in each of the 10 USEA Areas, rewarding riders for their safe and effective cross-country riding. Kimberly Storm and Leslie Villela walked away winners of the Charles Owen Technical Merit Award at Coconino.
