Searching for Events

By USEA | December 19, 2006

Being that last year was the first time my frontal lobe acknowledged a thing called eventing, I was new to many USEA concepts. When I first looked at the Omnibus, 2 thoughts came to mind.

First, What is an omnibus? A technical definition reads, "a collection of articles". The name might have an artful origin, but it didn't lend to easily understanding why it looks the way it does or even it's purpose. I sit in an office that contians stacks of old USCTA publications and I can personally attest to the fact that the document really hasn't changed much. As so much changes in the organization of an event, the document quickly becomes stale. Online versions of this document should help with this problem.

Second, What is an area? I am from VA. I now know that means I am located in Area II. I can find Area II events in the Area II section of the omnibus. These events are listed by date. If I want to find an event in another area, I need to understand which states are in my vicinity and look up the area. If you ever looked at a map of the areas, you begin to understand the difficultly once you realized area 2 is surrounded by 3 areas: 1 - 2 - 8 (not 4)

A Solution I recieved a suggestion about putting together a zipcode search for events. I thought the idea was simple enough and seems more intuitive than messing with the Omnibus and Areas. Search Events by Zipcode Looking forward, this concept could apply to clinics, instructors, non-USEA events, volunteer opportunities, tack-shops, etc...
