The 2017 Woodside International Horse Trials kicks off tomorrow in Woodside, California, with the USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) West Coast Championships. The rest of the weekend will see competitors at the Beginner Novice through Advanced levels and in the CIC*, CIC2*, CIC3* divisions. Both the CIC3* and Advanced divisions at Woodside serve as qualifying division for the 2018 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series, which will culminate with the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final at the 2018 American Eventing Championships at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado.

• 13 horses are entered to compete in the USEA Young Event Horse 4- and 5-year-old Championship divisions, with Tamie Smith riding five of those 13 entries.
• Over 275 riders will compete across the divisions from Beginner Novice all the way up to Advanced and 53 riders are set to compete in the CIC*, CIC2*, and CIC3* divisions.
• Husband and wife Derek and Bea di Grazia will be competing against each other in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* division this weekend on Ringwood Justice and Ringwood Isabelle, both of whom are making their debut at the level.
• In addition to Ringwood Isabelle and Ringwood Justice, three more horses will make their first attempt at the CIC3* level this weekend: Sabrina Glaser and Patricia Yust’s Rembrandt, who won the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced division this year at Aspen Farms, individual 2008 Olympic silver medalist Gina Miles and Tara Verkuil’s Greenfort Othello, and Andrea Nielsen and LC O'Shawnisee.
• Two past Kentucky Three-Day Event competitors will make appearances in the CIC3* at Woodside: Bunnie Sexton and Rise Against and James Alliston and Parker.
• Just two competitors are entered to compete in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced division: Julie Boyer and High Decorum and Anne-Sophie Levesque and Eskapade.
• The USEA Young Event Horse West Coast Championships will be judged by Judy Bradwell, Mark Weissbecker, and Faith Fessenden.
• Ian Stark has returned as the cross-country course designer for all levels for the third year in a row.
• Michael Roy Curtis will design the show jumping courses for all levels.

About the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series

The 2018 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series features 11 qualifying competitions throughout the United States at the Advanced horse trials and CIC3* levels. The qualifying period begins August 2017 and continues through August 2018 with the final taking place at the 2018 USEA American Eventing Championships at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado, August 29 – September 2, 2018. Riders who complete a qualifier earn the chance to vie for $40,000 in prize money and thousands of dollars in prizes and the title of Adequan USEA Gold Cup Champion in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final Advanced Division.

About the USEA Young Event Horse Series

The USEA Young Event Horse Series (YEH) is best described as an eventing talent search. The goal is to identify young horses that possesses the talent and disposition that, with proper training, can excel in the uppermost levels of eventing. While the ultimate aim is to identify the future four-star horses, many fine event horses who will excel at the lower levels will also be showcased.

The Series gives owners and breeders the opportunity to showcase the potential of their four- and five-year-old horses while encouraging the breeding and development of top-level event horses for the future. Classes focus on education and preparation of the event horse in a correct and progressive manner.
