Galway Downs Wraps Up A Great Weekend of International Competition

By Shelby Allen - USEA Staff | November 7, 2016

Galway Downs wrapped up an exciting weekend of competition with many west coast riders participating in their final three-day events of the season. The Temecula, Calif. Venue offered national (Novice – Preliminary), USEA Classic Series and international levels (CCI*/**/***) of competition.

In the three-star, it was Amber Levine and her own Carry On who triumphed. After a disappointing ending at their first CCI3* attempt at the Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International last month, Levine decided to reroute to Galway. The 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood made their second attempt count, earning a 48.8 on the flat – a six-point improvement from their score at Fair Hill, before having two faultless jump rounds for the win. Ellen Doughty-Hume followed in second place aboard her own Sir Oberon. The pair also ended on their dressage score (56.1) after professionally navigating Ian Stark’s cross-country and Marc Donovan’s show jumping.

James Alliston picked up the CCI2* win with Sophie Hulme’s Thomascourt Cooley. The 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse held his lead wire-to-wire, adding just 2.8 time penalties on cross-country to finish on a score of 47.3.

Angela Bowles had a special weekend, winning on longtime client and friend, Alyssa Phillips’ Oskar. This pair finished just one second above optimum time on cross-country to pick up .4 time penalties, but it was enough for a win in the CCI* on a final score of 42.7.
