Fast Facts: The Event at TerraNova

By Meagan DeLisle - USEA Staff

The final CCI4*-L of the 2024 season got underway this morning at The Event at TerraNova in Myakka City, Florida, and will run through Sunday, offering not only the feature CCI4*-L division, but also competition at the CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI2*-L, CCI1*-L, Preliminary, Training, Novice, Beginner Novice, and Starter levels. Get to know the CCI4*-L field and the competition details a bit more in this final edition of the USEA's Fast Facts!

The CCI4*-L Field:

  • The CCI4*-L field consists of 17 horse and rider pairs, but the most popular FEI division at this year's fall event at TerraNova is the CCI2*-L with 31 entries.
  • There are a handful of horses looking to tick off their first CCI4*-L completion this weekend. That list includes Aeronautics, Charmed Victory, Invictus, Langjaeger, Larcot Z, Malibu Preacher, Monbeg Libertine, Prontissimo, Rosie's Adventadora, and STX Mex.
  • Jessica Phoenix gets the award for busiest rider in the division with three entries between Wabbit, Fluorescent Adolescent, and Aeronautics.
  • If you're looking to keep your eye on pairs with recent top-3 finishes be sure to watch the following:
    • Daytona Beach 8, ridden by Cornelia Fletcher, finished second in the Advanced at Bouckaert Equestrian (Fairburn, Georgia) in October.
    • Fly Me Courageous, ridden by Janelle Fleming, had a third place finish at Bouckaert as well, but in the CCI4*-S division.
    • Larcot Z and Lauren Nicholson are coming in off a fresh win at Rocking Horse (Altoona, Florida) earlier this month in the Intermediate division.
  • Thoroughbred lovers will be tickled to know that the breed tops the field in popularity in the CCI4*-L at TerraNova. There are six Thoroughbred entries: Aeronautics, Charmed Victory, Fly Me Courageous, Malibu Preacher, Sea Of Clouds, and Wabbit.
  • Only three mares are entered this year: Fluorescent Adolescent, Rosie's Adventadora, and Daytona Beach 8.
  • Invictus is our youngest horse in the field at the age of 9.
  • Meanwhile Fly Me Courageous is our most senior entry at the prime age of 19.

Walking through a set of faded wooden barn doors is like meandering into a hushed library. Instead of twisting aisles filled with story after story, barn aisles are filled with the sounds of munching hay, soft breathy snorts, and stomping hooves. It’s a place that can seem to be out of reach to much of the outside world. A barn is a dusty, sunlit cocoon, tucked away from the chaos of work, school, and stress.
