Fast Facts: The Event at Rebecca Farm

By Meagan DeLisle - USEA Staff

There will be around 600 eventers vying for the top spot on the leaderboard across 28 division at The Event at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana this week with competition kicking off on Wednesday, July 20. This iconic event is a destination for many eventers with horse and rider pairs shipping in from all across the country, many thanks to funds received through grants such as the Rebecca Broussard Travel Grant and the inaugural Ocala Horse Properties Rebecca Farm Flight Grant. The Event at Rebecca Farm features CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI3*-S, and CCI2*-L international divisions in addition to offering Novice, Training, Preliminary, and Intermediate national divisions and a USEA Classic Series event at both the Novice and Training levels.

The CCI4*-L Field:

  • There are 10 entries in the CCI4*-L, including last year's CCI4*-L victor Helen Alliston's 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding Paper Jam (Paparazzo x Reely Jamin xx) ridden by James Alliston.
  • Through the Rebecca Broussard Travel Grant, over $28,000 in grant funding was given to 26 riders to compete at the FEI levels at Rebecca Farm. CCI4*-L recipients include Helen Alliston (CA), James Alliston (CA), Alyssa Phillips (FL), and Chris Talley (VA).
  • The youngest horse in the field is the now 8-year-old and former 2021 USEA 7-year-old Intermediate Leaderboard Champion Nemesis, owned by Alliston Equestrian's Nemesis. The Allistons have owned Nemesis since he was just a yearling. The young horse (who won the CCI3*-L at Rebecca Farm in 2021) is on a hot streak, having never placed outside of the top three during the 2022 season, including a third-place finish at the 2022 Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI4*-S this April. Learn more about Nemesis here.
  • Helen Alliston's 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding Ebay (Escudo x Contessa) has had a slam-dunk 2021 season earning a second in a CCI3*-S this spring and a first at the Preliminary, Intermediate, and CCI4*-S levels over the course of the year.
  • There are four horses who will be attempting their first CCI4*-L this weekend at Rebecca Farm: Ebay, Nemesis, Oskar, and Jos Bravio.
  • Thanks to the assistance of the Rebecca Broussard Travel Grant funding, Phillips has made the trek all the way to Montana from Florida with her 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding Oskar (Coriando x Nicole) and the pair are definitely aiming to put their best foot forward at Rebecca Farm. The pair recently kicked off their 2022 season in May where they had a second-place finish in the Intermediate at Fair Hill and then later shared a win together in the CCI3*-S at the Maryland Horse Trials in June.

The Facts:

  • Patricia Clifton is the technical delegate with Andrew Temkin assisting.
  • Christina Klingspor is the president of the ground jury of the CCI4*-L and CCI4*-S and will be assisted by Julie Purgly and Gretchen Butts.
  • Ian Stark is the cross-country course designer.
  • Chris Barnard is the show jumping course designer.
  • The CCI4*-L and CCI4*-S are both qualifiers for the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final that will take place at the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds, which is also being held at Rebecca Farm in August.
