Eventers Gallop to Greatness at Gettsyburg College

When the average person thinks of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a small town right off of route 15, they might think of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, and Gettysburg College. However, if you’re an eventer, you might think of the location as Area II and home of the newly formed Gettysburg Eventing Team.

Gettysburg College Eventing has finished up our fall competition season, and members are on the final stretch of the fall semester. As a new team this year, we have had a very successful fall. Our team currently consists of four members, who compete from beginner novice through the one-star level, with various backgrounds in eventing, pony club, foxhunting, show jumping, and dressage, making us a very versatile group who all enjoy eventing.
We are a part of the larger Gettysburg Equestrian team which has 30+ members. Together we combine for fundraisers, meetings, team dinners and team bonding activities. This fall we have worked on a lot of planning for the future of the eventing team, which includes recruitment for members of the class of 2021!
The team has participated in clinics with upper level riders, as well as many recognized events. As for winter plans, we have scheduled to participate in many clinics and schooling shows to prepare for the spring competition season.

Being located in Area II, we all feel very fortunate to be within driving distance to many fantastic events and several upper level trainers. We have started to plan out the spring season with exciting clinics and competitions lined up.
As a team, we strive to create an environment where people can be a full time college student while still being a competitive eventer. Getting a college degree is extremely important, not only do you grown academically, but as a person. During college, people skills are acquired and relationships are formed. With support from the college, the Eventing Team hopes to grow in members over the next couple of years, and participate in collegiate competitions.
