Equine Fatality at Ocala Fall Horse Trials

By Ocala Horse Trials - Edited Press Release | October 5, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Ataviuos, owned and ridden by Erin Farrell, following an accident during the Ocala Fall Horse Trials at the Florida Horse Park in Ocala, Florida, on Sunday.

Erin and Ataviuos, a 7-year-old Thoroughbred gelding (Hard Spun x Wild Silk), were competing in the Intermediate division. Erin, a talented young rider, had developed a strong partnership with Ataviuos through the levels, and he was greatly loved by those who knew him.

The horse will undergo a necropsy at the University of Florida Veterinary Hospital for further examination. Erin was uninjured in the incident.

The Florida Horse Park Organizing Committee and the USEA extend their sincere condolences to Erin and everyone connected to Ataviuos. We take all such incidents seriously and will thoroughly review the circumstances to enhance safety measures and reduce risks within equestrian sport.
