2009 AEC Joins Forces with Riding For A Cure
The USEA is proud to announce that for the second year the Bit of Britain/USEA American Eventing Championships will benefit Riding For a Cure.
Riding For a Cure is a unique non-profit that gathers equestrians together to raise money for a common cause, finding a cure for cancer. The Illinois-based organization was founded in 2002 by Christine Lenny Gabriel, a four-time cancer survivor and longtime equestrian. Since its inception, Riding For a Cure has raised nearly $450,000 for cancer research and has donated its proceeds to American Cancer Society and The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation.
"We are so happy to be able to partner with the AEC again this year," said Tracy Gilman, event chair of Riding For a Cure. "The AEC helps so much by just getting Riding For A Cure's name out there since riders from all over the country come to participate in the Championships."
Riding For a Cure will have a booth at this year's event selling polo shirts, saddle pads, and doggie polos that benefit the organization, but if you are not able to make the journey to Lamplight this year, there are still other ways for you to get involved with Riding For a Cure.
Attend Riding For a Cure's annual trail ride. Equestrians ride out on a 20 mile trail ride, raising money through pledges. This year's ride is scheduled for August 18 at the Lamplight Equestrian Center. Anyone can participate, but riders must raise at least $150 in pledges. If you are not up to a 20 mile ride, Riding For a Cure is also hosting "Champagne and Saddle Pads" at Equifest II $25,000 Grand Prix at Lamplight Equestrian Center.
USEA members can also help Riding For a Cure without even leaving their desks. Go online and make a pledge for a rider participating in the trail ride, buy a raffle ticket to win a trip to Dubai, or make a donation in honor of a loved one on the Celebration of Life Section.
Riding For a Cure is a great cause for the AEC to benefit because it is "horsemen helping horsemen, raising money for a cure for cancer and doing it in a way they know how: riding horses!"
