USEA Podcast #359: Double the Championships, Double the Fun

The USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championship has always been a fan-favorite amongst USEA staff and members alike, but this year the year-end showdown which was dubbed the "happiest horse trial on earth" by a USEA staff member is getting bigger and better with the addition of the inaugural USEA Interscholastic Eventing League Championship.

Interim host Rosie Russell caught up with former USEA Intercollegiate competitor Kate Boggan, USEA Board of Governors representative Molly Pellegrini, and USEA staff member Kaleigh Collett to talk about the amazing opportunities that can arise from this year's conjoined championships which take place May 4-5 at Stable View in Aiken, South Carolina.

That “Forward” State of Mind

We’ve all been there—on the horse who pokes his way around the warm-up ring, needs leg, leg, leg coming into the combination, or brings up the rear on every trail ride. None of us wants each and every ride to be a lower-body squeezefest, nor do we wish to do anything with our crop except maybe wave it at that annoying deerfly. In this excerpt from his book The Sport Horse Problem Solver, former international eventer Eric Smiley explains the essential quality of forwardness and how to prepare the horse to expect you to look for it in all that you do together.
