There is nothing more important to US Equestrian than the health and safety of our members, especially our young ones. We share this goal with our vast membership and are committed to working together to create a safe environment for all equestrians. This is what Safe Sport is all about and today, as we previewed at our Annual Meeting last week, we will be unveiling a revamped section of the US Equestrian website dedicated solely to Safe Sport.

On June 1, 2019, US Equestrian’s Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention (MAAP) Policies went into effect. As members work to change their behaviors to further support and protect minor athletes (anyone under 18 years of age regardless of USEF age), in our sport, the following are five fast facts you need to know about the mandatory requirements outlined in the new USEF MAAP Policies.

US Equestrian updated its SafeSport Sanctions List following the issuance of an interim suspension. The interim suspension prohibits participation, in any capacity, in any activity or competition authorized by, organized by, or under the auspices of the United States Olympic Committee, the national governing bodies recognized by the United States Olympic Committee, including US Equestrian, and/or any US Equestrian Affiliated Organization.

US Equestrian believes the safety and welfare of our members, especially our children, is of paramount importance and that all members must be kept safe from abuse of all kinds.

On August 27, 2018, the US Equestrian Board of Directors approved a rule change requiring that effective January 1, 2019, all US Equestrian (USEF) adult members with a Competing Membership must complete USEF’s Safe Sport Training in order to be eligible to participate in USEF activities.

US Equestrian recently updated our notification process for Safe Sport temporary suspensions and lifetime bans. US Equestrian continually evaluates our communication strategy to ensure we provide our members with meaningful information in a timely manner.

The U.S. Center for SafeSport has notified US Equestrian of updates to its Disciplinary Records following the issuance of a Temporary Suspension to Tommy Serio and Neil Donnelly, Jr., based on allegations of misconduct.
