Hello, my name is Emily Worth and today I am writing to tell you about my experience with the long format three-day event. I live in Selma, North Carolina, and am 15 years old. Three years ago, in 2015, I competed in an assisted Beginner Novice division, and while I was there I got to see the long format being run. It looked like a lot of fun and seemed like an amazing opportunity.
After ten fabulous years celebrating the traditional eventing long-format, The Heart of the Carolinas Three-Day Event and Horse Trials is sorry to announce that the competition is cancelled for the foreseeable future.
Every year on the first weekend in May, Southern 8ths Farm in Chesterfield, South Carolina (Area III) hosts the Heart of the Carolinas (HOTC) Three-Day Event and Horse Trials. Heart of the Carolinas offers USEA Classic Series divisions for Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels and horse trials divisions for the same, including the new Modified level.
Spanning from coast to coast, north and south; the United States Eventing Association (USEA) Classic Series season is in full swing. The Heart of Carolinas at Southern Eighths Farm in Chesterfield, S.C. is the only event in the country to offer the USEA Classic Series at all four levels: Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Preliminary.
For the Heart of the Carolinas, the Training Three-Day, Novice Three-Day and Beginner Novice Three-Day are just more divisions – they are the heart of the competition.
USEA Young Event Horse and Future Event Horse divisions have been added to the 2017 Heart of the Carolinas (HOTC) Three-Day Event and Horse Trials at Southern 8ths Farm May 3-7.

Farm owner Brad Turley proclaimed 2016 to be the event’s “best year yet.”
