Planning Your Next Season? Check Out the 2020 Calendar Updates

The fall 2019 eventing season may be in full swing, but it’s never too early to start planning your 2020 eventing calendar! Below you will find a comprehensive list of the changes taking place on the USEA calendar in 2020. Please remember that organizers are not required to complete their prize lists until 30 days prior to the opening date of the event, but you can always reach out to the organizer for more information.

Area I

  • Genesee Valley Hunt Horse Trials (July 11-12, 2020) will no longer be offering Preliminary, only Intro through Modified levels.
  • Course Brook Farm Horse Trials will take place one weekend earlier on August 29-30, 2020.

Area II

  • The Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event (May 6-10, 2020) will now also offer Preliminary.
  • Virginia Horse Trials International (May 21-24, 2020) will add a CCI*-S.
  • The Devon Eventing Showcase will take place the weekend of May 23-24, 2020.
  • Horse Park of New Jersey Horse Trials I (June 27-28, 2020) will add Advanced.
  • Essex Horse Trials will move from mid-June to July 18-19, 2020.
  • In addition to their current offering of CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, and Advanced through Beginner Novice, Morven Park (October 1-4, 2020) will now also host a CCI4*-L, a CCI3*-L 7-year old division, and a CCI2*-L 6-year-old division.*
  • Fair Hill International (October 15-18, 2020) will no longer have a CCI4*-L, but will be debuting their CCI5*-L and continuing to hold a CCI3*-L. The event will be run under a new name, the Maryland Five-Star at Fair Hill.

Area III

  • Chattahoochee Hills Horse Trials will add Modified to their events on February 28-March 1, May 16-17, June 27-28, July 4-5, and August 29-30.
  • Grand Oaks Horse Trials (January 17-19, 2020) will now also host a CCI*-S.
  • Stable View Aiken Opener Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on January 18-19, 2020 and will add the Modified level.
  • The Wellington Eventing Showcase will return to the calendar on February 8-9, 2020.
  • Sporting Days Farm March Horse Trials (February 28-March 1, 2020) will now include Modified.
  • Majestic Oaks is adding a new event on March 20-22 which will include Intermediate/Preliminary through Beginner Novice.
  • Stable View Spring Horse Trials moved from their mid-week date to the weekend of March 26-28, 2020 and will offer CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, and CCI*-S divisions.
  • Majestic Oaks is adding a Preliminary-Beginner Novice horse trials on May 9-10, 2020.
  • Stable View Horse Trials (June 20-21, 2020) is adding Advanced, Intermediate, and Modified divisions.
  • Paradise Horse Trials and Middle Tennessee Pony Club Horse Trials are switching weekends in the fall. Paradise will now run on October 3, 2020 and Middle Tennessee will run October 10-11, 2020.
  • Ocala Horse Trials (October 10-11) is adding an Advanced division.
  • Grand Oaks is adding a horse trials on October 24-25, 2020 with Preliminary-Beginner Novice.
  • Full Gallop Farm November Horse Trials is taking place two weekends later on November 15, 2020.
  • Grand Oaks Horse Trials is taking place one weekend earlier on November 20-22 and offering a CCI*.

Area IV

  • Catalpa Corner Charity Horse Trials has added a new event offering Preliminary-Starter on May 2-3, 2020.
  • Queeny Park Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on June 13-14, 2020.
  • Fox River Valley Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on June 25-28, 2020.
  • Sundance Horse Trials will take place one weekend earlier on September 19-20, 2020.

Area V

  • Feather Creek Horse Trials will take place a month earlier on August 22-23, 2020.
  • Meadowcreek Park Fall Social Event will take place two weekends later on September 19-20, 2020.
  • Fleur de Leap Horse Trials will take place two weekends earlier on September 26-27, 2020.

Area VI

  • Twin Rivers Spring Horse Trials (April 9-12, 2020) will host a CCI4*-L in addition to their existing CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI3*-L, CCI2*-L, and Beginner Novice through Advanced horse trials.*
  • Fresno County Horse Park Horse Trials will take place one weekend earlier on April 17-19, 2020.
  • Copper Meadows will host a horse trials offering Advanced-Beginner Novice September 4-6, 2020.
  • Galway Downs International Event (October 29-November 1, 2020) will now offer Intermediate.

Area VII

  • Spokane Sport Horse Farm Sixth Annual Fall Horse Trials (October 1-4, 2020) will now also offer CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, and CCI*-S divisions.

Area VIII

No Changes

Area IX

  • Abbe Ranch Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on June 26-28, 2020.
  • Powder Basin Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on July 11-12, 2020.
  • Round Top Horse Trials will take place one weekend later on July 11, 2020.

Area X

  • Southern Arizona Horse Trials will add Preliminary level at their events on March 21-22, 2020 and November 21-22, 2020.

Fence-By-Fence: The 2024 Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event Cross-Country Course Preview

If all goes according to plan in the first part of the extended weekend, we will see 36 horses galloping across Derek di Grazia's CCI5*-L cross-country course at the 2024 Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event (DK3DE). The 2024 K3DE Daily: First Horse Inspection

Lights, cameras, action! The first formal horse inspection (which some might informally refer to as "the jog") at the 2024 Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event (K3DE) takes place this afternoon at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. While this part of the event is a fan-favorite historically based on the impeccable turnout of the horses and the stylish and forward fashion choices of the riders (we are looking at you Boyd Martin in hopes that you bring back the American flag suit circa 2022), it serves a very important purpose: ensuring that each horse is fit, sound, and ready to compete at the five-star level.
