Job Opportunity: Media and Communications Role

TITLE: Full Time – Media and Communications Coordinator (or) Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Media and Communications
STATUS: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: The Media & Communications Coordinator/Manager serves as a key day-to-day contributor to the USEA's communications channels, including useventing.com and USEA social media platforms. Working under the strategic direction of the Director of Media & Communications, this position develops and executes content plans, contributes original writing and photography, and helps ensure timely, accurate, engaging, and brand-consistent communications to USEA members and the broader eventing community.
Key Principles:
The USEA is looking for a highly motivated individual who is able to deliver high quality work and execute under pressure/deadlines. The individual should possess strong organizational, problem solving, and effective communication (both written and verbal) skills. Applicants should be extremely detail oriented with experience in media and communications, including, but not limited to, social media management, equestrian sports photography, and journalism. The individual must have an in-depth knowledge of the sport of eventing and its key players.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Content & Editorial
- Manage the USEA's Media Calendar, including online articles, social media, podcasts, and more
- Create or assign articles for www.useventing.com
- Own the weekly USEA e-newsletter
- Write occasional magazine columns and assist with high-level magazine edits and proofing
- Conduct interviews with USEA members of all levels in a professional manner
- Update the USEA website as needed
Photography & Visual Content
- Capture action photography at events related to the sport of eventing as assigned
- Support graphic design projects in Canva
Social Media Management
- Own USEA social media channels: posting content, developing strategy, and growing engagement
- Monitor digital channels and audience feedback, escalating sensitive or reputational issues to the Director
Team & Event Coordination
- Assign and manage work for freelance writers, photographers, and other contributors, including deadlines, direction, and review of submissions
- Lead teams of staff and freelancers onsite at events as assigned
- Travel for media coverage as assigned
Media Relations & Brand Consistency
- Assist with media relations, including press releases, media inquiries, credentials, and distribution lists
- Maintain consistency of USEA brand, voice, style, and messaging across digital communications
- Ensure sponsor and partner recognition requirements are incorporated into digital content
- Identify opportunities to grow audience reach across existing and emerging platforms
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Preferred Experience
The USEA is looking for a highly motivated communicator who can deliver polished, accurate work on deadline. Preferred candidates will have a strong background in writing, photography, and social media, and must be prepared to submit samples of their work with their application.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong writing ability in AP style, with samples of previous published work
- Experience with action/event photography, ideally within equestrian sport
- Working knowledge of Adobe Lightroom for photo editing
- Demonstrated experience managing social media channels and content strategy
- Experience with InDesign, Illustrator, Canva, or similar design programs preferred
- Ability to conduct interviews professionally
- Ability to manage projects independently while collaborating within a team
- Ability to work within strict deadlines
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Media Communications, English, or a related field
- 1–4 years of relevant experience for the Coordinator level; 4 years for the Manager level
- Familiarity with the sport of eventing strongly preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range is $55,000-75,000, commiserate on experience + benefits (Health, Dental, STD, LTD and Life, 401K, 11 paid holidays, 15 vacation/sick leave days). USEA advertised office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. After hours/weekend travel and work are required for this position.
Position is available as in person at the Leesburg, VA office, hybrid or remote for qualified candidates.
ABOUT THE UNITED STATES EVENTING ASSOCIATION
The United States Eventing Association is the national organization dedicated to the education and development of horses and riders in the equestrian sport of three-day eventing. The USEA was founded in 1959 and has approximately 13,000 members in all 50 United States in addition to over 100 international members. The USEA recognizes around 250 competitions nationwide. The organization is a non-profit 501 C (3) corporation directed by a Board of Governors with day to day operations run by a small permanent staff from the headquarters in Leesburg, Virginia.
