At the end of 2025, the USEA Foundation established the TEAPRO Grant (Training and Education in the Art of Pace and Riding in the Open). This grant is available to organizers, trainers, education groups, and others to provide opportunities for riders and horses to practice galloping, trot sets, and other forms of riding in the open. It is also aimed at improving education about conditioning the horse and building endurance and fitness for both horses and riders.

The recipients of the 2026 grants are as follows:

  • Rachel Medbery of Daffodil Hill Farm (Bethany, Connecticut) to hold an in-person and virtual education program on how to prepare for a long format three-day event. The target is the Waredaca Classic Three-Day (Laytonsville, Maryland) in October.
  • Laura and Brian Healy of Bayboro Equestrian in (Branchville, New Jersey) for a clinic this spring to help riders develop a feel for pace at the walk, trot and canter.
  • SAzEA in Tucson, Arizona, to establish a pace track and set up clinics at their location at the Pima County Fairgrounds. Riders will be encouraged to come learn how to prep for a long format three-day from Starter to Preliminary levels with the Coconino Classic Three-Day as their goal.
  • The Horse Park of New Jersey (HPNJ) received the final award to help fund steeplechase clinics and practice. The HPNJ is located in Allentown.

While some of these recipients are using their funds to help with preparation for a Classic Series event, please note that TEAPRO grants can be used for any educational activity which encourages riding in the open.

We look forward to hearing more from the recipients as they hold their educational activities and share stories from the participants. Donations to keep this funding going can be made at www.USEAFoundation.org.

Thank you to the volunteer grant evaluation committee: Sharon Anthony, Jane Baron, Cassidy Sitton, Max Corcoran, and Sharon White.
