Fast Facts: The Event at TerraNova

By Meagan DeLisle - USEA Staff

The Event at TerraNova in Myakka City, Florida, might be the new “start” of the winter eventing season in Florida as many eventers slowly begin their retreats to warmer climates for the next few months. This weekend’s event, which starts on Nov. 17 and runs through Nov. 20, features competition at the following levels: Starter, Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, Preliminary, Intermediate, Advanced, CCI1*-L, CCI2*-L, CCI3*-L, and CCI4*-L.

The CCI4*-L Field:

  • Of the 23 entries in the CCI4*-L, there are nine first-time horses to the level: HSH Vamonos, Sommersby, SKM Lux Sonata, Renkum Corsair, Obeah Dancer, Live and Learn, Imperio Magic, Diabolo, and Alderwood.
  • The field is predominantly made up of U.S. riders, but we will see four Canadian riders, one Australian rider, and one rider representing Great Britain compete.
  • Jessica Phoenix (CAN) is the busiest rider with three horses on the four-star roster: Freedom GS, Watson GS, and Fluorescent Adolescent. Phoenix also has two horses entered in the three-star.
  • The Irish Sport Horse might reign supreme amongst the breeds on the entry list with five horses of Irish descent, but Canada actually takes home the top prize for representation with seven of this year’s entries having been bred across the border.
  • Coming into this weekend off of a win are Edith Rameika’s 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Rock Phantom (Spirit House x Ballycroy Rose) and Sara Kozumplik. This pair won the CCI4*-S at Chattahoochee Hills (Fairburn, Georgia) at the end of October.
  • Another top pair from Chattahoochee Hills is also set to compete in TerraNova’s CCI4*-L: Horse Scout Eventing’s 11-year-old British Sport Horse mare Tremanton and Great Britain’s Lucienne Bellissimo, who finished in third in the four-star this past month.
  • Geldings rule the roster–there are 17 geldings entered and six mares.
  • At 9 years old, Mary Bess Davis’ Anglo European gelding Imperio Magic (Cassander C x Khadija Des Hayettes) is the youngest horse in the field.
  • Lisa Marie Fergusson’s 17-year-old Thoroughbred cross gelding Honor Me (Brenarian Brenin ap Maldwyn x Dream Contessa) is the oldest horse in the lineup.

The Facts:

  • Neil McKenzie-Hall (NZL) is the Technical Delegate for the four-star.
  • Robert Stevenson (USA) is the President of the Ground Jury.
  • Mark Phillips (GBR) is the cross-country course designer for the four-star and Advanced divisions.
  • Marc Donovan (USA) is the show jumping course designer.
  • The CCI4*-L is a qualifier for the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final that will take place at the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds.
