Calling all USEA members in 7th through 12th grade! Now is the time to establish your teams and prepare to compete in the USEA Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL). The 2023 IEL Team Challenge calendar is now available, and members are encouraged to start planning their competition seasons to participate!
The mission of IEL is to bring together junior riders with a common interest and provide a supportive community through which students can continue to pursue their riding interests. This program encourages team camaraderie and gives junior members a chance to compete in a team atmosphere. As participants progress, the program also provides a pathway for those seeking to be part of the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Program once they’ve graduated high school. The goal of the IEL is to increase membership, education, and engagement in riders on a national level who are in 7th through 12th grade.
View the list of IEL team challenges below to start planning your must-attend events. Keep in mind that the calendar below is a preliminary, tentative list of events hosting IEL Team Challenges and it is subject to change. New challenges can be added regularly, so members are encouraged to reach out to their favorite local events to encourage them to apply to host an IEL team challenge. Please continue to check here for any updates throughout the year.

About the USEA Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL)
In August 2020, the USEA Board of Governors approved the creation of the USEA Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL) as an official program of the USEA. The mission of IEL is to unite junior riders who are in the 7-12th grade and provide a supportive community through which students can continue to pursue their riding interests. A group of junior members in the 7th-12th grade who share a common bond, such as the same barn, school, Pony Club, or other connection, register with the USEA as an interscholastic team. The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is pleased to announce the addition of the Modified Rider division beginning at the 2023 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC), presented by Nutrena Feeds. The USEA AEC will move back to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky August 29–September 3, 2023.
Are you interested in competing in the sport of eventing but aren’t quite sure how to get started? Do you have a horse that is looking for a new career? Consider participating in a USEA New Event Horse (NEH) competition in 2023! The USEA NEH Program was created to be an introduction to the sport of eventing for both horse and rider, and the 2023 NEH Calendar is now available here.
Will Coleman had a huge 2022 with his string of horses, including a team silver medal at the FEI World Eventing Championship in Italy on Off The Record and top four-star placings with Chin Tonic HS, but it was Dondante whose consistency paid off to earn the Standlee Premium Western Forage USEA Horse of the Year title.
Julie Murray has loved horses since she could breathe, so when her daughters showed an interest in Pony Club and then eventing, she was thrilled to go along for the ride.
Murray started volunteering at the Fallbrook Pony Club near her home in Fallbrook, California, serving as an intermediate district commissioner.
