Every year, the Charles Owen Technical Merit Award is presented in each of the 10 USEA areas, awarding junior and adult amateur riders for their safe and effective cross-country riding technique. The Genesee Valley Riding & Driving Club Horse Trials (GVRDC), August 17-18, 2019, hosted the Area I leg of the award and adult amateur rider Jax Maxian was named the recipient.
Last winter, the organizers of the Genesee Valley Riding and Driving Club Horse Trials made the decision last winter to offer a Modified division at our event in August. We run a small event and knew entries would be limited but felt that the quality of what we offer, combined with the novelty of being the first to do so in Area I, made it an attractive prospect.
The Genesee Valley Riding and Driving Club Horse Trials in Geneseo, New York (Area I) hosts two events each year in early June and late August. The June horse trials is a one-day event that offers Introductory through Training/Novice levels, and the August horse trials is held over two days and offers Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels, including the new Modified level, as well as Young Event Horse, Future Event Horse, and New Event Horse divisions.
