The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) Horse Trials in Landrum, SC is pleased to announce local event rider and trainer Beth Perkins as the new cross-country course designer. She takes over for Greg Schlappi, who after several years as the designer and builder at the beloved Area III event, is focusing on building customized portable jumps and designing for private schooling facilities.

The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) Horse Trials in Tryon, North Carolina runs once a year as a part of Area III’s calendar in mid-April and offers Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels. FENCE is open year-round to equestrians, hikers, and birdwatchers, and hosts 9,000 elementary and high school students each year as a part of their outreach programs.

The Foothills Nature Equestrian Center (FENCE) boasted one of the largest collegiate team challenges to date last weekend at their April FENCE Horse Trials with 12 teams made of 33 students going head-to-head for top honors.

The Intercollegiate Team Challenge at FENCE this past weekend was a huge success. Everywhere you looked there were groups of blue, orange, and red. These were the groups of riders and their supporters from the University of Kentucky, Clemson University, and the University of Georgia that gathered to compete in this first such contest in our area.

The FENCE Horse Trials scheduled for March 31 to April 1 in Landrum, South Carolina has been canceled. "Due to scheduling conflicts in Area III FENCE is canceling its April Horse trials and will reorganize its intentions for 2013, please look to join us next year," said FENCE Equestrian Director, Ronald Piccari.

Well, it’s over and done. All that hustle and bustle, all the prep work, all the checking legs in the wee hours of the night, all the blog writing for useventing.com, and it all actually did reach a conclusion. Amazing how even when we think time is moving so slowly, how it’s really flying by.
