In 2009, Maggie Deatrick competed at one of the last FEI recognized long formats, the CCI* at Midsouth Horse Trials. Finishing in third place with her off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding, Divine Comedy, Deatrick explained, “It was one of the highlights of my career with him, even after we moved up the levels and tackled our first CCI4-S together.”
The Hagyard MidSouth Three-Day Event and Team Challenge Horse Trials is held once yearly in mid-October at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky (Area VIII) and offers horse trials for Beginner Novice through Preliminary level in addition to Hylofit USEA Classic Series Training and Preliminary Three-Day and CCI* divisions.
Known for bourbon, bluegrass, and big racehorses, Kentucky is also known for the Kentucky Horse Park. The renowned park has attracted eventing legends to eventing rookies and everyone in between. On October 17-21, the Kentucky Horse Park hosted their last eventing competition of the season: the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event & Team Challenge.
As the 2017 season draws to a close, riders all over the country are competing in long-format USEA Classic Series events as the culmination of their fall season. Hagyard Midsouth Horse Trials at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, hosted both a Training Three-Day as well as the only Preliminary Three-Day in the country at their event on October 18-22, 2017.
For many competitors, finishing a traditional long format event is major bucket list item. Waredaca Farm and the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event make that dream possible by offering Novice, Training and Preliminary USEA Classic Series divisions between their two competitions.
Lexington, Ky. - This weekend the hallowed grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park played host to the USEF One-Star Eventing National Championships as part of the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event & Team Challenge. In a very competitive field of 50 in the CCI1*, Meghan O'Donoghue and Rehy USA claimed the Richard Collins Trophy for the win. Sharlee Lowe and Jjamaica topped the field of 20 in the Junior and Young Rider division to clinch the Harry T. Peters Trophy.
Last weekend East Coast competitors enjoyed the traditions of a Long Format Event by participating in USEA Classic Series Divisions.
While the SmartPak Equine USEA Classic Series has been growing stronger every year at the Training Level, the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event was the only competition to offer the Preliminary Three-Day level in 2012. Out of the seven pairs starting the division at the Kentucky Horse Park, Jonathan Ketzler of Belleville, WI riding his own 8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, Sal, were the only pair to finish on their dressage score.
Champions in the three Hagyard MidSouth Three-Day Event were named and the Training, Novice, and Beginner Novice winning teams were crowned in the competitive Hagyard Midsouth Team Challenge at the Kentucky Horse Park.
