Lexington, Ky.—April 28— The Ground Jury was busy this morning assessing the 40 horses that presented in the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event Cosequin CCI4*-S and the remaining 25 pairs in the CCI5*-L.
The four-star horse inspection took place at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning and was two horses short after Lindsay Traisnel (CAN) and Lucienne Bellissimo (GBR) withdrew their mounts, Bacyrouge and Dyri overnight. U.S. rider Briggs Surratt's Thoroughbred cross mare Corture, which he co-owns with Elissa Wallace, was held after the first presentation but later accepted upon her second time down High Hopes Inspection Lane.
Show jumping for the CCI4*-S division will begin at 10:30 a.m. EST and will run in reverse order.
The show jumping field for the five-star will be one less horse and rider after Doug Payne and his 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding Quantum Leap (Quite Capitol x Report to Sloopy) were sent to the hold box. Payne opted to withdraw in the hold box. We will see 24 five-star pairs in the final phase starting at 2:15 p.m. EST.

The horses in trainer Joe Davis’ barn at Horseshoe Indianapolis don’t just get standard hay in their nets each day. Throughout the afternoon, Davis or one of his employees opens the HayGain machine that sits at the end of his shed row and pulls out a warm, beautiful-smelling bale of freshly-steamed hay to fill their nets.
