Fast Facts: 2019 Fair Hill CCI-S

The Fair Hill International April Horse Trials and CCI-S in Elkton, Md. gets underway today with the final CCI4*-S of April. Fair Hill hosts four events a year – beginning with this CCI-S event and ending the year with the CCI-L event in October. They also host national horse trials in May and August.   • There are 21 pairs entered in the CCI4*-S with another 16 pairs in the Advanced.
  • Four countries are being represented in the CCI4*-S with competitors from the U.S., Ireland, Switzerland, and Zimbabwe.
  • Alexa Lapp is making her CCI4*-S debut with Nina Gardner’s Cambalda, a 17-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Balda Beau x Cathys Lady). As is Alexandra Tett who rides her own 11-year-old KWPN gelding, Hawk’s Cay (Washington x Terra).
  • Ray Price is the only returning CCI4*-S horse – he finished fourth last year with Boyd Martin. The 11-year-old Thoroughbred gelding (Raise A Stanza x Fair Fiona W) is entered in his first five-star next weekend at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event. Martin is also riding two other horses in the CCI4*-S: Contestor, Denise Lahey’s 12-year-old KWPN gelding (Contango x Jer’s Princess), who is making his first CCI4*-S start, and On Cue, Christine Turner’s 13-year-old AES mare (Cabri D’Elle x On High).
  • Besides Martin, every other CCI4*-S rider only has one mount entered.
  • Three horses are tackling their first Advanced including:
    • Big Berry, a 9-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, owned by Susan Gartenberg and ridden by Matthew Brown
    • Sea of Clouds, an 8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, (Malibu Moon x Winner’s Trick) owned by Herringswell Stables and ridden by Phillip Dutton.
    • Irish Turn, a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, owned and ridden by Hillary Moses.
  • Bridgette Miller is competing in her first Advanced aboard Tsunami III, Sarah Cousins’ 20-year-old Thoroughbred mare (Roanoke x Tsu Tsu Slew). Tsunami competed in her last Advanced with Cousins at this same event in 2018.
  • Marilyn Payne is President of the Ground Jury and will be assisted by Helen Brettell and Janice Conlon.
  • The CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, Advanced, and Intermediate cross-country courses were designed by Derek di Grazia, while Nina Fout designed the CCI2*-S, Preliminary, and Training.
  • Chris Barnard will design all of the show jumping courses.
  • $2,500 in prize money is being given in the CCI4*-S.

USEA Events A-Z: River Glen Horse Trials

The River Glen Equestrian Park in New Market, Tennessee (Area III) hosts four events a year, one each in April, June, August, and November, offering Starter through Advanced/Intermediate levels. For the first time this year, River Glen also offered FEI CCI2*-S and CCI3*-S divisions at their June event.

USEA Announces Partnership with State Line Tack

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with State Line Tack. As a Bronze Level Sponsor of the 2019 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC), State Line Tack will award $2,000 worth of prizes for the 22 AEC division winners. This year’s AEC will be held August 27-September 1, 2019 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Through the Lens: Golden Spike Horse Trials
