Competition Gets Underway at the 10th American Eventing Championships

Tyler, Texas – September 26, 2013 – The first day of competition begins today at the 10th Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC). Sunny skies greeted competitors in Tyler, Texas in the Advanced, Intermediate, Preliminary and Training divisions as they head into the first phase of the competition, dressage.

More than 430 horses arrived earlier in the week from 36 different states, including Maine, Washington, Colorado, Florida, Arizona, California, New York, Idaho, Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, Georgia and New Hampshire. Texas is well represented by over 120 riders.

Title sponsor Nutrena held a welcome party on Wednesday night featuring Texas Army National Guard Color Guard and Leah Farrier from Dallas singing the national anthem. A delicious “Taste of Texas” dinner was served and Tim McQuay, NRHA Hall of Famer and Three Million Dollar Rider, provided an amazing reining demonstration that included working bridleless.

In addition to a full day of competition, culminating around 5 pm, there will also be a dog show at 6 pm, sponsored by Weatherbeeta. Throughout the competition, there will be a trade fair with unique equestrian-themed shops, a great selection of local food vendors, seminars and more.

On Friday, the dressage will continue with the Beginner Novice and Novice divisions, while Training, Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced level competitors take to the cross-country course. On Saturday, cross-country continues for Beginner Novice and Novice horses and riders, while the Training, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced levels finish up with competition with show jumping. The final day of competition, Sunday, will feature show jumping for the Beginner Novice and Novice divisions.

The American Eventing Championships provide a unique opportunity for qualified juniors, adult amateurs and professionals to compete for the chance to be named the best in the nation at their respective levels and vie for a piece of the over $90,000 in prize money and $100,000 worth of prizes.

The competition is free to spectators and general admission parking is $5 per car. VIP passes provide access to the Patrons Tent, and include catered meals and VIP parking, are available for $75 each through the USEA booth onsite.
