The Area VII Championships were one of three Area Championships to run over the weekend of September 18-19. The Aspen Farms Horse Trials of Yelm, Washington was host to the over 150 combinations who qualified for the Area VII year-end Championships presented by Tin Men Supply. With ten Championship divisions running over the course of the weekend, the team of staff and volunteers putting on the event were quite busy ensuring that the Championship atmosphere was top-notch!
The 2021 USEA Future Event Horse (FEH) Championships will take place at three different regional competitions. The first of the three to kick off the FEH Championship season is the FEH East Coast Championships which will start on Saturday, September 25, and run through Sunday, September 26 at Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, Maryland. The 2021 USEA FEH Central and West Coast Championships will take place in October.
When Daniel Stickney met his future wife Kathy in college, he had zero involvement in the horse world. Kathy had ridden as a teen and after marrying in graduate school, the couple was invited on a trail ride by an acquaintance who owned a boarding and lesson barn. That trail ride sparked Kathy’s fire for riding again and she began working at the barn to help offset costs of lessons and boarding for her first horse, Kismet. Suddenly Daniel found himself in the saddle as well. The two have been riding together for over 30 years now.

The second of two CCI4*-S competitions being offered this weekend, Twin Rivers Ranch in Paso Robles, California is hosting the Twin Rivers Fall International which includes the CCI4*-S, in addition to both CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S international divisions, USEA Future Event Horse (FEH) and Young Event Horse (YEH) classes, as well as Introductory through Advanced horse trials. It’s going to be a busy weekend at Twin Rivers Ranch and we have broken down some fast facts for you to refer to before the competition kicks off.
For the sixth year the Oktoberfest CCI and Horse Trials will return to Stable View in Aiken, South Carolina this weekend on September 24-26. Oktoberfest is one of 28 CCI4*-S events on the 2021 calendar and will also feature a CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, and Beginner Novice through Intermediate horse trial divisions.
The USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Program and the USEA Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL) members are officially invited to attend the inaugural Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill taking place on October 14-17, 2021.
Over 211 Thoroughbreds traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park to compete at the 2021 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) presented by Nutrena Feeds on August 31 – September 5. There were four T.I.P. registered horses competing in the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final, four in the Intermediate Championship, 20 in the Bates Preliminary divisions, 11 in the Vetoquinol Modified Championship, 51 in the Training divisions, 64 in the Novice divisions, and 57 in the Beginner Novice divisions.
The USEA Adult Team Championships (ATC) were a huge success this year, garnering a record-breaking 58 ATC teams at the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds. The ATC provides USEA Adult Rider program members with the chance to compete as a team and represent their Area in a friendly and fun environment at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Preliminary levels.
Phillip Dutton and Quasi Cool added only 3.2 time faults to their dressage score of 25.7 to claim the CCI4*-S title at the Plantation Field International Three-Day Event. Dutton and Caroline Moran's 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Quo Vados I x B-Estelle) stood third after dressage, jumped clear in yesterday’s show jumping to move up to second overnight, and kept their cool around Derek di Grazia's challenging cross-country course to move up to the top spot.
Three clear show jumping rounds in the CCI4*-S at the Plantation Field International Three-Day Event have placed Allie Knowles in first, third, and sixth place with Ms. Poppins, Morswood, and Business Class all owned by Katherine O’Brien. Phillip Dutton and Quasi Cool, a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Quo Vados I x B-Estelle) owned by Caroline Moran, kept their cool to put in a double clear round and move up to second from overnight third place.
