The Education Department at the USEA is manned by one very dedicated, long-time employee: Senior Director of Education, Nancy Knight. Knight joined the USEA staff in December of 1999 after moving to Maryland from Green Bay, Wisconsin. She is responsible for the administration of all Training Programs for Eventing Officials (TPEO) and Continuing Education Clinics (CEC) for licensed officials, as well as the workshops, assessments, and annual symposium held by the USEA Eventing Coaches Program (ECP).

The United States Eventing Association (USEA), which was founded in September 1959, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization committed to providing eventing enthusiasts with a competitive level suited to their individual skills. By assisting and educating competitors, event organizers, and officials; maintaining responsible safety standards; and registering qualified competitions and clinics, the USEA offers strong and continuous training opportunities for an ever-expanding field of world-class competitors. Just as importantly, the USEA provides a means for all riders, regardless of age or ability, to experience the thrill of eventing.

If you have been involved at a higher level with the USEA, you probably recognize the names of the two ladies that spearhead all of the efforts of the USEA’s Programs, Partnerships, and Marketing department: Kate Lokey, Director of Programs and Marketing, and Kaleigh Collett, Marketing Coordinator, but a new member of this team has also joined the USEA staff in Heather Johnson, Programs and Inventory Assistant. If you have considered advertising with the USEA or are involved in the USEA’s Young Event Horse, Emerging Athletes U21, New Event Horse, Adult Riders, Young Riders, Classic Series, or Grooms programs, you probably have or most likely will interact with one of these staff members.

Two of the USEA staff members make up the small, but mighty USEA Media and Communications Team: Meagan DeLisle, Media and Communications Manager and Lindsay Berreth, Media and Communications Coordinator. All of the public-facing content that the USEA membership enjoy such as news articles on useventing.com, social media, the Eventing USA magazine, and more are a result of this team’s hard work each day.

Please always remain vigilant when it comes to sending any personal communications via email or text. Every year we receive reports of members and leaders of our sport receiving phishing attempts both online and by phone. These are often communications disguised as being sent from USEA staff or other leaders. As the years go on, the phishing attempts appear to be more directed and tailored.

It has been brought to the attention of the United States Eventing Association (USEA) that there have been issues with mail delivery by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to the USEA office associated with the busy holiday season. There have been numerous reports by members of letters being sent to the USEA office which have not been received dating back to before the Thanksgiving holiday. We are working with the USPS to attempt to address and resolve this situation. The United States Eventing Association, Inc. (USEA) is currently searching for qualified applicants for the position of Media and Communications Assistant. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media or a related field are asked to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the equestrian sport of eventing, creating and executing a media plan for web and social media, managing a content management system for a website, the ability to write and develop high quality articles, photography skills, and graphic design skills. Due to the relatively small staff size of the Association, this position requires a team player who is willing to pitch in with a variety of tasks as necessary.

The USEA Board of Governors (BOG) concluded a productive two days of the August BOG meeting on Wednesday, August 9th in Dulles, Virginia led by USEA President Max Corcoran. All but four BOG members were able to attend in person this year. Many key items related to eventing in the U.S. were discussed at great length including safety, membership strategies, competition procedures, visibility of the sport, and more over the course of the two-day gathering.
