West Coast eventers experienced tremendous success in 2022. Tamie Smith recorded top-10 finishes at Badminton in England, at the FEI World Championships at Pratoni in Italy, and at the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill. Helen Alliston won the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final, and Tommy Greengard captured the USEA Intermediate Championship at the USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC), presented by Nutrena Feeds. James Alliston returned to the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event for the first time since 2017 and finished third in the CCI4*-S.

The Santa Ynez Valley Pony Club (SYVPC) hosts two events yearly at Shepherd Ranch in Santa Ynez, California (Area VI), offering Introductory through Preliminary at their June event and Introductory through Intermediate/Preliminary at their August event.

The Shepherd Ranch SYVPC Horse Trials hosted the Area VI leg of the Charles Owen Technical Merit Award, which is presented to one junior and one adult amateur rider based on their safe and effective cross-country riding. Bridget London and Anika Baker were the recipients of the adult amateur and junior awards, respectively.

Sandwiched between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles is Santa Ynez, California, a town surrounded by rolling hills and grape vines. Along with the local wines and breathtaking views, Santa Ynez is also home to Area VI’s Charles Owen Technical Merit Award at the Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials held August 24-26, 2018.
