The USEA recently held an auction on its Facebook page for a Novice cabin cross-country fence, generously donated by cross-country course builder, Eric Bull, of Scottsville, Va. Bull is one of the top course builders in the country and each October he builds the fences for the USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) East Coast Championships. It was one of these fences that Bull so kindly donated to the USEA to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for the USEA Collapsible Fence Study. The fence, which can be used for either YEH classes or on a Novice cross-country course, generated some enthusiastic bidding. The successful bidder was David Taylor, Eventer, writer for Eventing Nation and facilities manager for Sunset Hills Farm in Woodbine, Md. Not content with simply having a beautiful new fence on his home schooling course, Taylor has now arranged to personally deliver the fence to three of his local Events in Area II to be included on their Novice Horse Trials courses this year. He is making a sign for the fence promoting the USEA Collapsible Fence Study, which he hopes will generate even more support for the program. Thanks to the generosity of Bull and the creative thinking of Taylor (not to mention his kindness in making the fence available to organizers) the USEA Collapsible Fence Study is getting closer to reaching the first year’s fundraising goal of $81,000.
