We have recovered from the "100 Year Flood!" of the Kelly's Ford May 17th, 2014 Canceled Horse Trials!  We have 6 new tracks running another direction for all the levels we offer, and we invite you to "Please Come Back and Try Us Again and We Will Not Disappoint You!". We have added a Junior/Amateur Adult Complementary Team Competition as well as a complementary  "Costume Contest" during the Jump phases to win a Grand Prize of a free Night's Stay at the Inn at Kelly's Ford up to a $250 value!

From North (Warrenton); Take US 29S (James Madison Hwy) for about 16 miles and turn left on Rte. 674 (Elkwood, VA-Post Office on corner and you'll see signage for Kelly's Ford). Cross Railroad Tracks and bear left onto Kelly’s Ford Rd. for about 5 miles. Do not turn left on Kelly’s Ford Bridge (You will see signage). Stay straight on  Edwards Shop Rd. Take first entrance to Equestrian Center on left about 1/3 mile down.
From South: (Culpeper): Take US 29N (James Madison Hwy) for about 10 miles and turn right on Kelly’s Ford Rd. (Elkwood, VA & you’ll see signage for Kelly’s Ford). Go about 5 miles and road will become Edwards Shop Rd. as you pass Kelly’s Ford Bridge (Stay Straight!). Take first entrance to Equestrian Center on left about 1/3 mile down.
From East; (Fredericksburg on US 17) From I-95 Take Us 17 North (Warrenton Rd.) for about 15 miles and turn left onto Sumerduck Rd. for about 8 miles and turn left on Kelly’s Ford Bridge (You will see signage). Turn Left on Edwards Shop Rd. after you cross Rappahannock River and take first entrance to Equestrian Center on left about 1/3 mile down.
From East (Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania on Rte. 3) At junction of I-95 and Rte. 3, head west toward Culpeper for approx. 19 miles (A mile past Walmart) to Rte. 620 Yellow Bottom Rd. (Shell gas station on corner). Turn right for about 2.5 miles to Rte. 610 (Eley's Ford Rd.). Turn left for ½ mile to Rte. 620 (Edwards Shop Rd.). Turn right for about 5 miles and take 3rd right hand entrance to Equestrian Center (Not 1st entrance on right).

Please check website: for updates and any additional information.   Starter and Introductory Tests are run as a regular "Horse Trials" and use USEA Entry Forms by checking the box Tests  instead of Levels on the USEA Entry Form. All on-line entries paying by check must be mailed within 5 days of entering for entry to be considered complete.  Any credit vouchers from the May 17th, 2014 Kelly's Ford Horse Trials cannot use Xentry online with a credit card, you must mail in your entry with your voucher.

USEA Recognized Horse Trials Divisions:
 P-$200; T-$190; N-$180; BN-$170. USEA Recognized Test Divisions: Starter/Introductory $140. Junior/Amateur Adult Team Challenge: No Charge! (3-4 riders at any level to be pre-designated by competitors by handwriting team members at bottom of entry form or email them directly to Secretary.  If no team is picked by you, we will assign you to a team after Closing Day).

"Early Bird" entries will be discounted by $10 if received by "Early Bird Closing Date" of 9/17. Late entries after Closing Date of 9/30 will incur a $35 additional Late Fee (Please contact Secretary above to see if space permits before entering).  Double Entries: Not accepted. Faxed Entries: Not accepted for USEA Recognized Horse Trial Divisions (BN-P) but accepted for USEA Recognized Tests (S-I) if using a USEA Horse Trials Entry Form and you call Equestrian Center Office with a credit card (540) 399-1800. Note: No Ride Times will be assigned if payment in full is not received by deadline of Sunday October 12 and you will also incur a Late Fee for the Incomplete Entry!


All entries made include a $25 non-refundable office fee. BN competitors and higher must be USEA members and horses must be registered with USEA.. Starter/Intro Tests are exempt from USEA Membership and Horse requirements and, USEA Starter/D&M fees do not apply.   Refunds: Before C.D. Less $25 non-refundable office fee; Withdraws will not be honored unless E-mailed or mailed on or before C.D. NO PHONE WITHDRAWLS WILL BE ACCEPTED. After C.D., Entry-no refund but Stabling in Full. Any Late Entries (if space allows) or changes made to entry after C.D. will be charged a $35 non-refundable processing fee.  No changes starting Tuesday before event unless you are exchanging Rider for Rider or Horse for Horse within the same Division but not same Level. USEA Starter and D&M Fees Refund Policy: The USEA
Starter and D&M fees ($21), are not subjected to office fees, and shall be returned within 30 days of the competition to any rider who does not start the dressage test.Competition cancellation-No refund.
Entries limited to 200. Copy of Negative Coggins Test within 12 months required for all horses and MUST accompany entry!  Please contact the Secretary above to see if space permits. Double entries: Not accepted. Faxed entries: Not accepted but Recognized Tests of Starter & Introductory accepted.  Recognized Tests will include all three phases just like a Recognized Horse Trials and same USEF Rules for Eventing apply. 


Competitor Information

1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Prizes & 8 ribbons per division (Un-mounted Awards Ceremony at scoreboard directly after scores are “Official” for each Division). The Junior/Amateur Adult Team Challenge will have Top Team Prize and ribbons for all Team Members through 6th place Team! In Team Challenge, the top three out of four scores will count for awards but all four members will receive awards. The Top Costume Prize will be displayed on October 19, 2014 by a photo of the "Winner" at (One complementary night's stay at the Inn at Kelly's Ford!).


Limited Stabling on grounds $35/night for isolated Pipe Pen Stalls only in indoor arena. One bag of wood shavings provided. Pipe Pen Stalls will be sold chronologically by your completed entry date and time. Call James Moore directly (540) 522-1017 to verify availability. Overflow Stabling will be farmed out to private farms if needed.   Veterinarian on site during competition day only.  Number will be posted at Secretary’s office.

P- 3120m @ 520 mpm 3'7" Max. Height with 26-28 efforts, T- 2600m @ 450 mpm 3’3” Max. Height with 22-24 efforts, N- 2200m @ 375 mpm. 2’11” Max. Height with 18-20 efforts, BN- 2000m @ 325 mpm  2’7” Max. Height with 16-18 efforts, S- 1800m @ 300mpm 2' Max. Height with 14-16 efforts, I- 1400m @ 275 mpm 18" Max. Height with 12-14 efforts. All Courses:  Above average galloping tracks that are large but set on relatively flat terrain with sandy river-bottom footing under grass where studs are not usually necessary, horses should have experience at this level because of numerous maximum height obstacles.  Entire track is in a direction is on flat manicured grass with some N, T, P obstacles in the woods. P & T now has a big loop on a hillside. S & I- have water jump(s). Past competition courses available for viewing on

Other Information:
USEF Rules for Eventing will be enforced! Eventing Tests (Intro/Starter) will be run the same as a USEA/USEF horse trial and will also follow USEF rules. Maximum Height for Starter will be 2' and Introductory 18".  When filling out USEA form please DO NOT pay Starter/D&M fees.  Medical Armbands (Available from Secretary or Tack Vendor) and ASTM Approved Protective Headgear required for all jumping phases and Safety Vests required for cross-country phase! The Cross-Country Course will be will be closed from Monday October 6 through Saturday October 18. Otherwise it is open for schooling daily- $30 by appointment only (540) 399-1800.  Check website: for more information. Past competition cross-country courses available for viewing on No unauthorized motorized vehicles allowed on course.  Concessions and Trade Fair of Vendors will be available during show.  Divisions further divided if entries warrant.  Farrier will be on grounds during show only with phone number posted at Score Board.  Dogs must be on a leash at all times ($50 Dog Impound X-C Jump Donation Fee if caught loose on grounds!).  Top Costume on the Jumping Phases will be awarded a complementary night's stay (up to $250 value) at the Inn at Kelly's Ford on Sunday October 19, 2014 by their photo at! Complementary “Closing Reception” for everyone after the last X-C ride of the day in the Secretary’s Tent sponsored by Prestige Training, LLC.
