Meet the USEA Areas: Area VII

Get to know each United States Eventing Association (USEA) Area a little better in this new series, Meet the Areas. This month’s feature is USEA Area VII which is made up of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska and is the largest area in the USEA by land! Failed Vetting to FEI Dream Horse: 100 Horse Trials and Counting with West Point

Horse shopping can sometimes feel like a box of chocolates. An unassuming choice might turn out to be the best of the bunch. For 39-year-old Betsy Ball, this was certainly the case with her heart-horse, West Point. Ball was originally in search of an all-around lesson horse for her barn; what she ended up getting was a barely broke 5-year-old who would go on to be her FEI two-star mount and inherently change her entire perspective of the sport.

The Jockey Club Renews Partnership with the USEA

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is once again pleased to announce the renewed partnership with The Jockey Club as a Silver Level Sponsor of the 2022 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) presented by Nutrena Feeds.The Jockey Club will award Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) prizes in all 23 AEC divisions that include a cooler, ribbon, and prize money for every T.I.P. Carla Jimmerson Takes Tag You're It from Colt to Cross-Country

When it comes to riders and their horses, not many can say that they have had their mounts since they were a foal. Carla Jimmerson, however, prefers to start her partnerships from scratch. Having trained horses for years, Jimmerson finds that working with a blank canvas is most rewarding. Her most recent project, Tag You’re It, is a 6-year-old Thoroughbred/Connemara cross gelding that she got at just 10-months-old. Having worked together for the better part of five years, the pair have an incredibly unique bond that can only be attributed to their time spent together early on in Tag Your It’s life.

The VIP Volunteer: Joan Harper

Joan Harper is a committed rider, eventing volunteer, and course decorator that has been in love with horses since she was a child. She started out trail riding for fun before she’d even made it to grade school and was serious about horses by high school. However, while participating in a few unrecognized events, it wasn’t until her 30’s that she was introduced to the sport of eventing when her daughter joined the local Pony Club. From there, she started learning all she could; stating, “I tell people that at 50, I started my second childhood with eventing.
