The USEA Cross-Country Design and Fence Construction Safety Task Force is a dedicated group consisting of officials, course designers, engineers, organizers and competitors. The goal of the group is to constantly evaluate all safety aspects of the cross-country phase of competition including, but not limited to, design and construction of the fences and courses. Overall, the main focus of the task force is to reduce the risk of both rider and horse injuries and fatalities while in competition.

The USEA and eventing in general has many opportunities to volunteer and give back to the sport. Volunteer positions are available at local events, in every area, as well as on a national level by volunteering with a USEA committee. There is a place for every eventing enthusiast to volunteer!

As year one of the USEA Collapsible Fence Study comes to an end, Dr. Suzanne Weaver Smith addressed the USEA Board of Governors at the 2016 USEA Annual Meeting and Convention on the progress of the University of Kentucky (UK) research at this halfway point.Dr. Smith leads a small, but mighty team at the University of Kentucky which consists of Mechanical Engineering (ME) graduate student Gregorio Robles Vega, ME undergraduate senior Lange Ledbetter and Shannon Wood, an equestrian and engineering physics student at Murray State University.

It always helps to see a warm and friendly face when heading to warm up for that all-important test or jump round. In this new series, the United States Evening Association (USEA) is partnering with Athletux, to feature those around us who help make these events happen, the volunteers. Without them horse shows and programs could not succeed and these volunteers go above and beyond to make sure every rider feels comfortable and confident.

You won’t want to miss any of these very generous donations, from entries to apparel to destination vacations! Proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit the Roger Haller Educational Fund, which was created earlier this year to expand educational programs for judges, technical delegates, course designers, instructors and volunteers.

The USEA has established two educational scholarships in memory of the late Roger Haller. Designed to provide financial assistance to those licensed officials who are working towards promotion to the “R” license, the “S” license or the FEI licenses. The Roger Haller Scholarship may be used to offset the costs involved in attending the necessary seminars and obtaining the practical experience required to attain promotion to the next level of licensing. The USEA will award scholarships of $5,000 each to two individuals in 2016.

The annual Worth the Trust Educational Scholarships are now available! These scholarships, one for Adult Amateurs and one for Young Adults, aim to reward up-and-coming amateur eventers by helping to fund training opportunities like clinics, working student positions and private or group instruction.
