Worth The Trust

The Worth the Trust Educational Scholarships are awarded annually to one Adult Amateur and one Young Adult Amateur with the purpose of helping to fund training opportunities like clinics, working student positions and private instruction. Below is the winning essay of the 2017 Worth the Trust Adult Amateur scholarship. Erica Seas was the recipient of the 2012 Worth the Trust Scholarship, but was granted an extension to use her funds after she lost her horse in a devastating event. Here, she reflects on the Scholarship and the bending, but not breaking, of dreams.

Meet Lorraine Barrows. She is a horse owner, scientist, young horse trainer, volunteer, and competitor. Lorraine is also our 2014 Adult Amateur Worth the Trust Scholarship winner, and won $2000 towards training costs with this essay.

After severe injuries from a freak accident left Heidi Siegmund in the hospital and out of the saddle for a few months, she made an unlikely recovery and returned to eventing quickly, moving her mare Sierra up to the Preliminary level. As the 2014 Worth the Trust Young Adult Scholarship winner, Siegmund will recieve $3,000 to put towards training in hopes of upper level success. Read her winning essay.

The recipients of the 2012 Worth the Trust Scholarships were announced at the USEA Awards Dinner on December 10. the USEA was pleased to award the Young Adult Scholarship to Lucy Gordon of Mount Sidney, Virginia and the Adult Amateur Scholarship to Erica Seas of Billings, Montana.
