Show Jumping

In a continued effort to raise the standard of eventing show jumping course design in the United States, US Equestrian has announced its plans for the 2018 Eventing Show Jumping Course Advisor Program. After reviewing all FEI level eventing show jumping courses in 2017, US Equestrian Eventing Show Jumping Course Advisor Richard Jeffery will turn his focus to 12 National Horse Trial show jumping courses across the preliminary and intermediate levels in 2018.

Only eight horses of the 35 who show jumped today were clear in the $75,000 Wellington Eventing Showcase. With the rails flying the standings jumbled quite a bit and Boyd Martin and Blackfoot Mystery have moved into the lead. Owned by the Blackfoot Mystery syndicate, the 12-year-old Thoroughbred gelding moved up from third after both Allison Springer with Arthur and Buck Davidson with BallynoeCastle RM dropped a rail apiece.

The students became the teachers this weekend as young riders, Jacob Fletcher and Caroline Martin, stole the top two positions of the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final. Fletcher added only four cross-country time penalties to his final score all weekend to take home the $20,000, a trailerful of prizes and the title of Adequan USEA Gold Cup Champion. Martin had the distinct honor of becoming the only Gold Cup competitor to finish on her dressage score and took home $7,000 in addition to fabulous prizes.

The United States Federation's International Discipline Council has approved the recommendation of Silvio Mazzoni as the Eventing Show Jumping Coach for the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team.

Show jumping legend George Morris reminds us that basics are basics, regardless of what discipline in which you happen to participate. The Master taught a clinic at Boyd and Silva Martin's Windurra Farm, August 27-28, with many upper level riders in attendance.

Andrew Nicholson raised his fist in victory when he crossed the finish line with Deborah Sellar’s 11-year-old Caballo de Deporte Español gelding Quimbo, having jumped clear to maintain the overnight lead and win the 2013 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event and the second leg of the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. He also placed third with Calico Joe, taking home a grand total of $110,000.

Part two of Yogi Breisner's show jumping presentation at the 2013 USEA Ocala Symposium, presented by the USEA Instructors Certification Program, was geared toward Preliminary level riders and horses. The lesson was thorough as he guided riders through a variety of exercises ranging from simple suppleness and bending at the walk to an aerobically intense gymnastic jumping exercise.
