Horses and riders dressed to the nines this morning for the first horse inspection at the 2017 Galway Downs International Three-Day Event. Sixty-one international pairs and all twenty-nine Training Three-Day competitors were accepted.

All ten CCI3* combinations were approved by the Ground Jury to begin competition. The field is made up of both four-star veterans as well as three-star first timers. Notable entries include recent Woodside CIC3* victors James Alliston and Happenstance as well as Kentucky Three-Day Event finishers Ellen Doughty-Hume with Sir Oberon and Bunnie Sexton with Rise Against. This class will begin with dressage Friday, November 3, at 10:45 a.m. in Ring 1.

Every CCI2* horse was also accepted, keeping the head count at fourteen for this division. They will complete the dressage portion of competition Friday, November 3, at 8:20 a.m. in Ring 1.

Thirty-seven pairs were accepted in the CCI* division. One horse, Stephanie Nicora’s High In The Air, was held and unfortunately not accepted upon representation. This group will perform their dressage tests Thursday, November 2, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Ring 1.

Training Three-Day (T3D) competitors also kick off the competition today after all twenty-nine entries were accepted this morning. Part of the United States Eventing Association’s (USEA) Classic Series, a T3D gives today’s riders a chance to experience the origins of the sport, including a four-phase endurance day which will test their weeks of fitness preparation. They begin dressage at 1:00 p.m. in Ring 2.

Dressage continues on Friday with the CCI2*, CCI3*, and national divisions. The T3D endurance day begins at 2:00 p.m. with Phase D (cross-country) scheduled to begin at 2:40 p.m.

International cross-country will be held on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. with the CCI2*. The CCI3* will begin at 10:20 a.m. followed by the CCI* at 12:25 p.m. The T3D competition concludes Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. with a thrilling show jumping finale.

Show jumping for the CCI divisions will be held in Sycamore Field starting with the CCI* division at 12:00 p.m on Sunday. The classes will run in reverse order of standing to guarantee a thrilling finish.
