Gold Cup Fast Facts: Millbrook Horse Trials

The 17th Annual Millbrook Horse Trials kicks off tomorrow at Coole Park Farm in Millbrook, N.Y. The Advanced division at Millbrook is the last opportunity for rider to qualify to compete in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final taking place later this month at the 2017 USEA American Eventing Championships, presented by Nutrena.

  • Millbrook Horse Trials offers Beginner Novice through Advanced levels with over 400 horses competing across 20 divisions.
  • 40 horse-and-rider combinations are set to contest the Advanced division, which is also the final 2017 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series qualifier.
  • Half of the division will do their dressage tests on Thursday beginning at 1:08 p.m. with the rest competing on Friday beginning at 10:20 a.m. 
  • Advanced cross-country will be from 11:14 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Show jumping will be in reverse order of placing on Sunday.
  • Millbrook’s cross-country is designed by Tremaine Cooper.
  • Marc Donovan will design the show jumping courses for all levels.
  • General Admission is free, and hospitality packages for an enhanced spectator experience are also available for purchase.
  • With four rides apiece, Phillip Dutton (Z, I’m Sew Ready, Fernhill Revelation, Mr. Candyman) and Boyd Martin (Long Island T, Bonito, Tura Lura, Steady Eddie) make up 20% of the entire Advanced division.
  • There are three riders with two rides each: Sarah Cousins (Christopher and Wizard); Buck Davidson (Copper Beach and Carlevo); Ema Klugman (Joker’s Win and Bendigo)
  • 32% of the Advanced horses were born in the U.S. with half of those being OTTBs
  • Doug Payne is returning to competition with Vandiver less than a month after breaking his collarbone. The pair finished third last year.

  • 10:00 a.m. – Dressage (All Levels)

Friday

  • 7:30 a.m. – Cross-Country (Training, Novice, Beginner Novice)
  • 8:00 a.m. – Dressage (All Levels)

Saturday

  • 7:30 a.m. – Show Jumping (Training, Novice, Beginner Novice)
  • 8:00 a.m. – Cross-Country (Intermediate, Advanced, Preliminary)

Sunday

  • 7:30 a.m. – Show Jumping: Preliminary, Intermediate, Advanced

About the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series

The 2017 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series features 11 qualifying competitions throughout the United States at the Advanced horse trials and CIC3* levels. Qualifying began last fall and continues through August with the final taking place at the USEA American Eventing Championships, August 30 – September 3 at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, N.C. Riders who complete a qualifier earn the chance to vie for $40,000 in prize money and thousands of dollars in prizes in the Adequan Advanced Division and the title of Adequan USEA Gold Cup Champion.
