Longtime Area V Young Rider coach, Mike Huber received a very special surprise at this year’s Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships. During the competitor’s party on Saturday, a crowd of young riders took to the stage to recognize Huber for his years of unwavering dedication and leadership to Area V. Huber has faithfully served the Young Riders of Area V as their coach at North American Junior Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) for 18 years. 2015 was Huber’s last year coaching, but he didn’t leave without first leading Area V to a silver medal in the CH-J* championship. After this year’s championship Huber handed the reins to Texas native, Angela Gryzwinski.

The Young Riders presented Huber with a new trophy to honor his service to Area V. Donated by Friends of Mike Huber, this prize will be awarded annually at the NAJYRC to any coach, chef d’equipe or team support person who best exemplifies Huber’s enthusiasm, sportsmanship and dedication to the youth of the sport. This special trophy will be earned for the first time at the 2016 NAJYRC. Each winner will take home their own trophy to keep as well as have their name engraved on a plaque for a perpetual trophy.

Thank you to this legendary man for all the memories, the laughs and the numerous medals over the years.
